It Happened: NCIS

Chapter 57

"You haven't stopped smiling since we left the house." Tim tells Melissa as he's driving the both of them to work.

She shrugs. "Maybe it's because I haven't been to work with you in months."

"Why say maybe?"

Melissa kisses his hand that she's holding while the other one is in control of the car.

"I'm just happy. Can't I be happy with my husband?"

He smirks at her and looks back at the road. "Fine."

This makes Melissa laugh and hold his hand a little tighter as they continue their drive to NCIS. The place where they met and made beautiful memories.

Tim can tell something is up but doesn't address it until they're alone in the elevator.

"You're quiet for someone who is excited to be back at work with me."

"Aren't I usually quiet?"

"No."

"Oh." She says still smiling.

He doesn't pay too much attention to it. He just continues to hold her hand until the elevator door opens and they're welcomes by their friends.

"Surprise!" And the only one surprised his him. He turns to Melissa who is smiling because of the smile on his face.

The squad room is filled with balloons and decorations. Everyone is clapping in honor of Tim's return and he still can't believe it.

"You knew about this?"

Melissa gets on her tippy toes to kiss him on the cheek. "Let's just say we're even now."

As Tim walks to the crowd of people, he stopped by two familiar faces that he hasn't seen in a while.

"Ducky! Palmer!" Tim shouts as he sticks his arms out to have a group hug with the guys.

"Actually, Timothy it's Dr. Palmer now." Ducky fills Tim in on a little secret.

Tim looks at Jimmy with amazement. "Jimmy, you did it?"

Jimmy has a wide smile on his face. "Yes, I did." He wraps his arms around Tim again. "And I am so glad to have to back and share this moment with you."

"We both are." Ducky says while patting Tim on the back.

Tim turns around looking for Melissa because he wants to have her by his side for all of this.

She notices that he's looking for her and sneaks up to hold his hand. "I'm right here." She coos in his ear.

The two are then greeted by their best friends Abby, Ziva, and Tony.

"I think we've seen you enough so there's no surprise here." Ziva hits Tony in the arm for saying that even though he's joking.

"I can use another hug." Abby says as if she was giving Tim a choice.

Melissa smiles, happy to finally have her family back together when she notices how wide Ziva smile is. Melissa recalls what happened a few days ago and looks down at her finger.

Melissa gasps and everyone is staring at her. She grabs Ziva's hand and looks at the two of them. "Does this mean?"

Tim looks at them shocked because he knows that it's Tony's ring that is on Ziva's finger.

Tony and Ziva smile at each other and shake their heads. "Yes, it means we're engaged."

Abby found out about it earlier because nothing gets passed her. Melissa hugs Ziva in excitement and can barely let her go.

"Yay!"

"It's about time." Tim says as he hugs Tony.

Tony brings him in and then wraps his arm around him. "I know that you would be new to the position, but how would you like to retire as groom and become a best man?"

Tim looks at his brother by choice and couldn't be happier. "It would be an honor Tony."

Ziva looks at Melissa, but she turns away. "If you even think about asking what I think you're about to ask then I am going to cry my eyes out and I did my makeup today."

Everyone laughs as Ziva hugs her tight. "Thank you." She says to her. Melissa knows what she's talking about but doesn't say anything. Tony just needed a push in the direction he knew he was supposed to be on all along. He did the rest.

"Melissa." Abby takes her hand and walks her to the table where all the food is, and she can't believe her eyes. "I know it's a lot, but someone, decided what you wanted just wasn't enough."

Melissa picks her jaw up off the floor. "Who was that?"

"Me." Gibbs says sneaking up behind her.

Melissa smiles at him. "Everything looks amazing."

He shrugs. "Well, how many times can we celebrate someone not being dead after all this time."

Melissa smiles and looks around at everything one last time. "Thanks dad."

Gibbs darts his head to her, and he can't help, but smile and pull her into his arms. She knows it's what he's always wanted to hear. It just felt right to finally say it now.

James didn't hate Gibbs as much as he tried to convince everyone. He just hated that he gave Melissa more than he thought he ever could or did. Melissa hopes that where every he is now, that he knows he gave her more than she can ever repay him for.

Melissa looks around at the place she thought she would only ever be an assistant and found a family. Her future husband, and another dad. She never thought her life would turn out like this, but she's thankful that it did.

"Hey." Tim sneaks up on them with the others behind him. He takes Melissa's hand in his again. "Thank you for everything baby. It's perfect."

"Well, I had a little help." She looks at everyone.

Everyone smiles and takes in this moment that their one true family is back together again and will do anything to keep it like this.

Out of nowhere, Gibbs takes Ziva's hand with Tony's ring on it.

"Ziva, is there something I should know about?"

"Oh, no." Melissa says with a smile on her face. "We are not doing this again."

Or are they?

(Wow. If you had asked me two years ago if I would be finishing this Fanfic, I would honestly say you're crazy because I had so much going on and so much doubt. I honestly can't believe we made it here. I want to thank every single one of you who stuck by these past two years. When I wasn't posting or when I was giving horrible reading material. I honestly have no words for how thankful I am of all of you who have read this series and have helped me escape my reality through this. You all mean so much to me and I can't thank you enough for the opportunity to make something like this.
