COLDNESS was radiating through the windows, as a five year old blonde haired and light skin tone of the young girl was looking out the bay window of the hallway as she was supposed to be asleep at 4am the clock said as the young girl was reading the clock as she couldn’t sleep when her father left late the previous evening after putting her to bed.
The girl's mother was asleep, as she walked down the stairs from the bay window as she walked to the living room seeing the christmas tree and gifts underneath it, but none of that mattered to the young girl. All she wanted was to sleep peacefully when her father would return. When she could see him again, and for him to be there when the Allen’s were supposed to be there.
It was a small version of the much older girl who was just smiling brightly and believing in all the good things as her parents taught her to. She couldn’t wait to see her father walk through the door, as he had a last minute mission with his team as she always looked up to her father.
About twenty minutes later, her mother walked downstairs. “McKenna what are you doing up so early?” Her mother asked her before the doorbell rang and Joan walked towards the door opening it to see a bloody Rex, like he just got out of being in a long fight, “Rex, What happened? Where’s Jay?” Joan asked her husband's friend as his emotions changed to grief, he just lost a majority of his friends, and then he went to get help at one of his closest friends' homes with his wife, and young daughter not knowing anything.
“Nobody else made it, but Stripsey and I.” He told Joan as she gasped as tears fell down her as she continued to patch some of the cuts as tears were falling down her eyes as she knew she had to break the news to her daughter. “How do I break it to her?” She asked Rex as he looked at Joan feeling guilt and remorse for her loss, and her daughter’s loss along with his loss of his teammates, but he still had a wife, and a child to go home to. Joan did lose her husband, and was left raising his daughter who might grow up with the same abilities her father once had.
Once Rex was fully patched up he hugged Joan as he had to leave and get home before it was too late. As Joan decided to go find her daughter and try her hardest not to break down when telling her the news. She couldn’t even make it to the living room without tears threatening her eyes seeing the photos of her and Jay at their wedding to when she had their daughter, to seeing McKenna and her father both smiling as the memory was once when they went to Central City for a visit to the Allen’s.
As Joan walked Rex out the door he hugged her once more then leaving to go see his son and wife. While she walked back in to see her daughter still with a smile on her face. And she tried her hardest walking in the living, passing the photos with Jay on it without balling out crying for her loss of her husband; the love of her life as this house brought back memories of him when he hasn’t even been gone more than a few hours so far. How was she supposed to live on without him, and raise their daughter alone as a single mother?
