He was silent as we walked. We were almost to the complex when he asked, “why can’t you talk?” I huffed and rolled my eyes and wrote, “I’m selectively mute I’ll only talk when I feel completely safe though I haven’t spoken to anyone since I was four.” he nodded, “oh sorry.” I shrugged again. I opened the door and motioned inside and Warren put his hands up, “nah I should probably head home myself goodnight Blake.” I smiled signing, “goodnight Warren.” I laid on my bed staring up at the ceiling. I knew I wasn’t gonna be able to sleep because my mind was racing as to why I wanted to actually talk to Warren. I headed into the living room and grabbed my guitar off the stand playing the first song that came to mind. My voice was cracky from not being used for so long, “What day is it? And in what month? This clock never seemed so alive I can't keep up and I can't back down I've been losing so much time 'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do Nothing to lose And it's you and me and all of the people And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you.” for the first time in years I let some tears fall.

I stopped playing covering my face as I sobbed, “I miss you so much mama.” I set my guitar down and curled up into a ball hugging a pillow that soaked up my tears. I looked up when my phone buzzed and I saw a message from an unknown number, “hey it’s Warren ;).” I felt a smile slowly form on my lips, “hey.” Then I paused. I never gave him my number, “how did you get my number?” it seems like an eternity before my phone buzzed, “got it while you worked on the oil change.” I nodded to myself, “alright goodnight Warren.” my phone buzzed, “goodnight firecracker.” I smiled at the nickname and I found myself with my eyes slowly sliding shut as my body fell asleep with the thought of Warren on my mind.

I jolted awake and looked at the clock mentally cursing when I saw I was over an hour late to school. I threw my hair up into a bun, applying on my eyeliner and mascara grimacing at how pale I looked in the mirror. I shook it off and slipped into my normal clothes and slipped on a pair of fingerless gloves. I ran out the door but made sure to lock it behind me before running down the stairs and lifting myself into the air towards school the moment I ran outside. I ran into the office area smiling at the security guard, “let me guess overslept?” I smiled sheepishly nodding, he smiled, “it’s nice to see a new face.” I smiled at him and slid him my student ID and he gave me it back along with a late slip to class. I knocked on the closed door and Mr. Medulla, being the fantastic teacher he is, used his usual sarcasm I’ve heard about, “ohh Miss. Kitsch so nice of you to join us.”  I rolled my eyes and handed him my late slip. He pointed to a seat next to Warren, “you’ll be seated next to Mr. Peace.” Warren looked up and saw me.

“Mr. Peace if you could be so kind as to fill in Miss. Kitsch on what she missed that would be fantastic.” I walked to the lab table and sat next to Warren and looked at him. He slipped me his notebook and noticed that it was scribbled notes. I smiled, grabbing my notebook and writing down his notes, sliding them back after five minutes of writing with a little note at the top, “thanks for the notes also since you know my powers, what's yours? x.” I don’t know why I added that but I did. I also noticed that he was back to his normal scowl; he slid me over a note simply saying, “pyrokinesis.”. I noticed the girl who showed everyone around point over at Warren saying something to a girl in a cheer uniform before they both snickered. I held back a growl but let my eyes flash to a flame as she looked at me letting out a shocked little gasp before I returned to my normal eye color smirking to myself slightly at her reaction.

I slipped in my headphones as I started to draw and I colored it in and I mentally gasped as I realized I had drawn Warren with his hand in flames leaning against a brick wall. I was impressed how realistic I made the flames look.He looked over at my sketchbook and I quickly shut it before he could see it. I could feel my inner wolf practically purring at the closeness and presence of Warren and it confused me as I've never felt this way towards anyone. The lunch bell rang and I begrudgingly got up and my inner wolf practically whined at the loss of the presence of Warren. I speed walked to Principal Powers office knocking on the polished wooden door and there was a muffled, "come in." I walked in and a smile appeared on her face, "Miss. Kitsch how can I help you today?" I wiped my clammy hands onto my jeans writing on my whiteboard, "do you know much about shifters?"

She nodded, "let me guess you've started to develop feelings that you've never experienced before and your inner wolf is practically purring when you're near a specific person." I nodded and she sighed, "it means that you've found your mate." I froze in shock and she smiled, "you should probably head to lunch we can discuss more after school." I nodded and quickly thanked her in sign language before leaving the small office space. I hurried to the cafeteria and I spotted Lash's arm covered in his striped shirt inching his way towards Will's ankle. I ran over and pushed him out of the way but I tripped as I did so and I caught myself on the table but unfortunately I hit my face onto the table and blood immediately started to gush out of my nose. Lash's arm extended again shoving Will straight into Warren who stood up looking furious. My inner wolf immediately told me to rush over to calm him down.
