Hometown

Friday

I fiddle with Betty's hair while we sit on the couch waiting for everybody else. She means her head on my shoulder and my heart warms. It feels like the part in a movie where the music swells and there is a zoom in on the two characters before it fades to black and they get their happily ever after. I wonder if we'll ever get ours. I'm interrupted but Cheryl bursting through the front door with Veronica and Archie by her side. Archie sits next to Betty, to my chagrin, and Cheryl is next to me with Veronica at her side.
"We're here." She announces. "The party shall commence."
"I brought snacks, " Archie says, holding up a full reusable shopping bag if goodies.
"I brought every season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer." Veronica says, holding up a large box set.
"That's so funny, I brought friends." Cheryl says.
"I brought How I Met Your Mother." Archie adds.
"Betty, what did you bring?" Veronica asks.
"Community, obviously."
I smile at everyone's show. "So uh...long weekend binge where none of us get off the couch except to get more snacks and use the bathroom."
"Is there any other way?" Betty giggles.
"Okay, we'll watch friends first, then Buffy, then How I Met Your Mother. Himym and Friends are way too similar to be watched in a row." Cheryl says, sticking DVD one of Friends into the DVD player.
"So are we pulling out the couch now or later?" Archie asks.
"Might as well do it now." Betty shrugs, standing up.
We all pull out the couch into a bed and curl up on it. Betty cuddles into my chest and Archie curls into her back. Cheryl rests her head on Veronica's stomach. Betty looks up at me and smiles.
"What?" I ask with a grin.
"You're cute."
"Well thank you, madam, I find you mighty attractive as well." I say with a country accent.
She giggles again and Cheryl looks over at us. "Does the sacred ritual of the knock off losers club mean nothing to you?" She snaps.
"Sorry, Cher." Betty smiles. "Juggie, can you please help me in the kitchen for a second."
"Yeah, of course."
