I get home from work with Betty at my side. She pays Jellybean for watching Becca and Jellybean leaves. Betty lifts Becca into her arms and passes her over to me. I stare at my baby girl who I haven't seen in months. I feel my heart pounding in my chest and I smile down at her.
"I love you baby girl."
"That's your dada." Betty says.
"Dada." Becca says.
I look up at Betty who is unphased.
"Did she just say?"
"Juggie, she's been saying it for longer than you've been gone. She has full conversations about cookies and puppies."
I nod. I can't believe I missed that. I was so wrapped up in my own life to notice my daughter growing up right in front of me. I hold Becca on my hip and walk into the kitchen.
"Nana nana nana nana." Becca leans forward opening and closing her hands at Betty.
"We don't have any bananas right now, what else do you want?"
"Essa."
Betty crouches down and grabs a pack of Frozen-themed fruit snacks. She opens them and passes the pack to her. Becca passes the fruit snacks to me and I smile at her.
4 months later
"Juggie." Betty says, walking into the living room where Becca is sitting in my lap watching Looney Tunes.
"Yeah baby?"
"I'm pregnant."
I do a double-take before getting up.
"You are?"
She smiles, nodding. "I am. Are you happy?"
"Of course I'm happy." I laugh.
Betty later gave birth to their son, Jacob. Her and Jughead stayed together, having the odd argument, but nothing major. All because he came back to his Hometown.
