Chapter 6
Zan just keep on following his friend. He was still shaken by what happened to his little sister. The said sister is currently passed out and was carried by her familiar on his back. It was already night and thankfully most people are not outside at that side of the village. Snow would probably cause a ruckus due to his massive size not to mention his bright red alpha eyes are still very apparent.
They entered a narrow and dark alley but Zan didn't give it much thought, trusting his friend entirely. After walking, almost running, they were in front of a glass door. It was dark from what he can see. He's about to say that maybe the shop is already closed when his friend Vroj just knocked on the door without any hesitation. After a minute a small figure emerged from the door.
"We're already closed?" The girl told them.
"We need help. Is Mr. Hwang available right now?" Vroj just asked her instead of acknowledging her earlier statement.
"As I told you—..wait. Is that an injured person?" She asked shocked nang tuluyan nyang mapansin ang babae nakasalampak sa likod ng isang malaking lobo. She knows it's an alpha wolf, the shining red eyes are hard to ignore.
"Yes. Please we really need help." singit ni Zan. He's starting to panic but trying to keep calm. The last time his sister was injured she actually healed herself but right now she's passed out and not healing, at all. Which worry him so much, his trembling didn't ceased since he saw his sister's injury.
"Come in." Is all the girl said as she opened the glass door for them.
Upon entering the door, Zan immediately noticed that he was currently in a very well lit place which is the exact opposite of what the glass door suggested earlier. Looking around he noticed stack of jar displayed at every wall of the room and at the right corner was a counter. If he's not mistaken it's a supply and medicine shop.
The girl from earlier led them to a room connected to the one they are currently in. It looks like a kichen but instead a big cauldron was sitting at the center. There's a couple of chair at the side and long table kung saan naman tumigil ang babae. Facing them once again, she regards them one by one.
"I'm going to find my father. For now you can lay her on the table." She told them and then suddenly disappear out of thin air. Mukhang sanay naman na si Vroj sa babae dahil di man lang ito nagreact while Zan is shocked at the sudden disappearance.
Remembering what she said. Zan with the help of Vroj carefully lay Spring's sleeping form at the long table. Now that they can see clearly her injury, Zan can't help but to frown.
"Zan I'm really sorry. I didn't know my annoying cousin was around. I'm really sorry." Vroj told his friend with guilt clear on his face and voice. Zan regards him with a look and sighed.
"I honestly don't know if I'm angrier at your cousin or at myself for not protecting my sister." Zan told Vroj with a frustrated grunt.
Vroj wanted to apologize more to his friend when a door opened behind them. The door revealed a middle aged man together with the girl they met earlier.
"Good evening gentlemen. Anong maitutulong ko sa inyo?" The man asked them.
"My sister needs help for her injuries." Zan simply told the old man.
He then proceed to walk near the long table to examine the said injured girl. He caught a sight of the wolf and gave it a side glance but didn't really regards the familiar.
"The burns are bad as it looks. Anong nangyari at ganon na lang kalala ang sugat ng kapatid mo?" The man asked once again. But then he was telling orders to the girl and even to Vroj to go and fetch the things he needed.
"One of Vroj cousins attacked her. I'm not present when it happened, nakita ko na lang syang nasusunog." Zan grimaced at his own words.
Agad din namang bumalik and dalawa pa nilang kasama at kinuha ni Mr. Hwang mula sa dalawa ang mga kakailanganin nya para sa potion. Slightly touching the girl's burned skin. He mentally calculated how potent he needs the potion to be. After feeling the intensity of her injury, the old man turned and started prancing around the big cauldron in the middle of the room. After a few minutes he suddenly stopped.
"Autumn can you please scan for any abnormalities with her magical aura?" He instructed as he glance back at his daughter.
The said girl approach the sleeping girl but was stopped by a growl.
"You're her familiar?" She asked loudly at the wolf. The wolf only growls louder at her.
"I just need to touch her arm nothing more. I need to make sure that there is no fluctuation with her magic." The girl told the wolf. The wolf stops growling but his sharp eyes never leaving her.
She tried to step forward towards the girl. After making sure there's no growling from the wolf, she proceed to touch the girl's arm carefully avoiding the burned skin. Closing her eyes, she concentrated and tried to search and feel for the injured girl's magic. Judging by the massive form of her familiar she pretty much expected the powerful aura and the overwhelming magic. But instead she was met by fleeting energy of the girl's magic. It was as if she purposely compressed her own magic so it wouldn't act instinctively.
"She's compressing her own magic." The girl told her father a little breathless. She knows that people with great magical core tends to have their magic act instinctively and suppressing that instincts must have taken a lot from her.
"Just as I thought. Anyway I'm currently brewing a calming and compression potion. We need her and her magic to calm so she can heal herself." The man told them simply that confused Vroj in return.
"Heal herself?" He asked the man.
"Yes. People with affinity to Earth tends to have healing abilities especially if they have a lot of magic in their core like her. I think she's in shock and that's why she's suppressing her own magic." Mr. Hwang explained. A thoughtful look graced his face as he continued brewing the potion to help the injured girl.
"I know this is a personal question, but is there something traumatic happened before that includes fire? I mean something happened that makes her scared to let her magic flow freely, not that bacause having yourself burn is not traumatic enough." He inquired the boy who introduced himself as the injured girl's brother.
"Yes. It actually happened last week when Dark Wizards attack our small community in East Earth. We we're cornered by a group of people and they were attacking us. When a guy was able to throw a ball of fire at her face, her magic reacts instinctively and ends up killing all the people who attacked us." Zan explained with a grim expression on his face.
"Dark Wizards you say?" the old man inquired. Zan only nods at him.
"Well that explain the suppression of her magic." The man told them.
A couple more minutes passed before the old man stepped away from the cauldron. With a snap of his fingers a sigil situated at the floor just beneath the cauldron lights up. He approached the cauldron after the light fades and hummed in approval.
He scoop out the potion out of the couldron into a bowl. Satisfied with it, he step towards the injured girl. He motion the older brother to help him feed the pottion to the girl. Pressing the bowl into her lips, he tilted the girl's head for her to swallow the potion.
Hindi alam ni Zan kung ano ba ang dapat mangyari after mainom ni Spring ang potion but then she started coughing. She coughed some more so he tried to soothes it by rubbing her back. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she noticed was her brother's concerned face. But then she glanced in front of her and was greeted by two unfamiliar faces. With a confused look she was about to ask her brother about what is happening when the old man cleared his throat that got all of their attention.
"Now that you're calm kid. Please heal yourself."
