Chapter 9: Elemental

Zan at a young age taught and trained himself. Their small community at East Earth only have enough sources to teach young ones very basic of some Magic Theories. It was just enough for them to grasp the easiest way in controlling and using their magic. But Zan always wanted more. His love for reading didn't help his case for this only made him wanted to learn more and help people.

It all started when his sister first step outside of their home and the other kids from their neighborhood laughed and mocked his little sister. He'd always known that his sister is special but what he doesn't understand is that why people are insulting her. His sister is very beautiful and full of life, full of magic. But all people ever noticed was her unusual appearance. That was when he realize that people tend to make fun of things they don't understand and that made Zan furious. They don't know anything yet they judged his sister. And from then on Zan promised himself that he will always aim for knowledge that will make him understand things in a bigger picture.

Unfortunately, even at this day he didn't have any answer as to why his sister look like herself. He have read dozens of books, even ancient ones, hoping he could find answers and make people see that his sister is not someone to be laughed at. And yet, no answers and instead he was bombarded with more questions.

In his pursuit of knowledge, his sister was always there. With no other friends aside from her brother, she accompany him instead in his study. She was too young when his research started but his sister was smart and Zan was a witness to that. While doing a homework for that week, his little sister at the tender age of four was able to make plants grow with nothing but her own magic. She was reading his homework and after understanding the basics, she was able to apply the theory in action. She can barely read and yet her understanding to magic was beyond even from what he knows.

A few years later to that incident, Zan was made aware of an Academy in the Central Palace where the greatest and most powerful wizards reside when a messenger from the royal court bought an announcement that made Zan found a new hope and goal. They were looking for young capable wizards that could attend and be a student to said Academy. It was a rare opportunity for their small community. So when he was accepted, his parents was so proud of him and did all their best to support him and his studies.

Entering the Academy, it was an experience he expect and didn't expect at all. Students who attend the prestigious Academy usually only accepted young wizards from noble blood line. So when the rumors about his poor background came to light, he was not that suprised. He experienced the same thing when people at their small community ridicule his little sister. This only made him more eager to research about his sister's peculiarity. He wanted to be admitted in the Academy in pursuit of knowledge and judgmental people won't be a hinder to his goals.

As he accepted his fate to be alone in his time in the Academy, he met a young noble lad who made him question his earlier judgement. They first met at a class in Magic Theory. The young noble was late and didn't have much choice but to sit at the only unoccupied seat which turns out to be a table shared with Zan. The noble was not only late but also unprepared for some reason. Zan immediately noticed this so he asked the noble lad formally if he would like to share with him. The noble was shocked at his question. Firstly, because he noticed too quickly his unpreparedness. He also asked him formally to share with him even though he was the one in need. And lastly, he didn't judged his situation and instead he helped him. The noble then introduce himself as Vroj Niforov. They didn't really notice at first but they actually share a lot of classes. And that's when they started to become friends.

And of course, their friendship was questioned and ridiculed the moment the rumors got around. People whispered in hush voices how Zan is only using Vroj for his status. And when it wasn't enough to affect the two, people started approaching Vroj to tell him lies of how his new friend wanted to use him. Vroj being an intelligent man himself didn't believe at the rumors. How can he believe them when his new friend is not even aware which noble family he was from? But that all happened when they were still in their first year at the Academy.

Four years later, after many problems and arguments they had. The two men realize that their friendship is something that they hold dearly. Without his sister, Zan found a brother he never expect in the form of his friend Vroj. While Vroj found someone he can trust and vouch his loyalty in the harsh world where everyone wants to befriend and betray him just because of the status that came with his name.

With friendship and trust established strongly for the two of them, Zan decided to share and tell his friend of the initial goal he had when he first entered the Academy. Vroj didn't expect the admittance but he was intrigued so he offer his help to Zan. And help is what he did.

After months of reading books after books from different libraries and sources that Vroj have some kind of connection, they found some ancient book of tales that talk about beings that hold magic too great and was basically treated as god and goddesses. The book is basically a folklore of some kind but they still read the whole book for it was the closest thing that can gave them answer and instead tried to absorb as much infromation as they can.

According to the book, beings who acquire magic that is like a personification of a certain element are called Elemental. They represent an element either of the wind, earth, fire or water. They have magic far greater than an average noble wizard. During the old times, they were celebrated and was treated as saviours or a god. But then war after war happened and the royal family used these people called Elemental to have more land and started enslaving beings of a different specie. After Elemental used their ability to win wars, instead of coming back to their own land as the victor they were said to be killed by their own magic even before they have the chance to come back. The war didn't stop despite of this fact and instead the King at that time himself honour the Elementals and said that it was their duty to sacrifice themselves for the greater of their country. And as if it was a punishment for abusing the power that was blessed upon them. The once prosperous country fell and was reduced to a small town that was now called as Wizard Town.

"What the hell? —" I didn't really finish my sentence because the next thing I know is that I'm running once again. But this time it was at the direction to Mr. Hwang's shop that I was able to find before I lost all of my concentration. Alam kong delikado ang lagay ko ngayon at wala dapat ni isa ang makaalam ng tunay na kakayahan ko. Ayon nga kay Mr. Hwang, jealousy and greed tends to be the reason in committing crime in Wizard Town.

Without much thinking I opened the door harshly the moment I was in front of the shop. Agad naman na sumalubong ang nagtatakang mukha ni Autumn. We never really talk that much but I know she know what I've been going through. I may act silent and meek but I'm not naive.

"Spring? Are you alright? Bakit hingal na hingal ka ata?" Tanong nito. Lumapit naman ako sa pwesto nito sa counter ng shop and look straight into her eyes.

The moment our eyes meet, I know she saw it. Saw how my eyes change just like how much my magic starts to flare like blazing hot fire, proud and loud.

"Let me just close the shop." She said urgently at agad na tumayo sa pwesto nito. I stand there frozen while I can feel and literally see what's happening around my sorrounding in my head. I watched her do some enchantment for the door and how the lights inside the shop dim as she finishes.

"Let's go to my father at his workroom. He can give you a potion for now to tame down your magic a little. I think the charm he made for you earlier is not appropriate for your magic anymore." Autumn said as she get hold of my arms. Pumasok naman kami sa isang pinto na sa una ay di kapansin pansin. It was hidden between rows of glass jars of ingridients, charms and books. After climbing the stairs behind the said door, we passed a long hallway then finally stumble into a double doors after some more turns.

Autumn was the one who opened the door and the next thing she said left me absolutely confused.

"Father! I told you she's like me. She's an Elemental."
