When Henry woke up without Tony next to him he wasn't surprised, he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and grabbed his phone from the nightstand, and smiled when he saw he received a text from Tony, the text read to call him when he got up so that's exactly what Henry did. "Hi, baby," Tony said over the speaker as soon as he picked up making Henry smile. "Hi darling, Morgan isn't awake yet so I thought it would be an okay time to call you, is it alright?" Henry questions seeing if he needs to wake up their daughter because Tony wants to say hi.
"Uh this is good, I wanted to talk to you today. We figured it out, we figured it out last night but we're just working out our plan right now." Tony explained, Henry closed his eyes and let out a sharp breath. He couldn't let Tony know how he was really feeling because if he was honest Tony would come running back home but Henry knows how much guilt Tony would feel. "Okay, do you want me to come down there and help?" Henry offers sitting up making the phone slide off his stomach and onto the bed.
"No, you need to stay with Morgan. Rhodey is with me so he's keeping me in line too." Tony laughs, he could hear a slap over the phone which meant that Rhodey was with him. "Tell him I said hi," Henry smirked at his phone which was in his hand. "Hi!" Rhodey says instead of Tony saying it for him, he can almost hear Tony rolling his eyes at their antics. "Hey, I love you know." Tony suddenly got serious, Henry gulped to swallow the lump in his throat. "I love you too, make it home okay?" Henry says brushing a hand over his face.
"I'll do my best," Tony says as Henry hears the door opening, Henry looks over to see Morgan walking into the room with her stuffed bunny in her hand while she's rubbing the sleepiness out of her eyes. "Morning sweetheart, wanna say hi to daddy?" Henry asks as he helps Morgan climb up the bed, like both her parents she's a little uncoordinated in the morning but Henry can't blame her.
Morgan rubbed her eyes as she sat next to Henry against the headboard. "Morning Daddy, when are you coming home?" Morgan asks as Henry brushes her hair down to smooth out her bedhead. "Well, hopefully soon but Daddy has to finish a couple of things with his friends. Are you being good for Papa?" Tony asks changing the subject for Morgan, she nodded before remembering that Tony couldn't see her. "Yes! We're gonna feed Gerald today." Morgan excitedly says looking at Henry who nods and kisses her on the forehead. "You are? That's so exciting, maybe if you ask nicely Papa can let you ride him." Tony says to which Morgan giggles at putting her hands over her mouth to stifle them making Henry smirk.
Henry could hear some voices in the background and could briefly hear Tony talk to someone before turning back towards the phone which meant that Tony had to go. "I gotta go guys, Morgana be good for Papa alright?" Tony says softly. "I love you, Daddy!" Morgan shouts close to the phone, Henry winces as he pulls the phone back. "Why don't you go brush your teeth?" Henry looks at Morgan with a raised eyebrow, he was hoping that he would be able to say goodbye to Tony alone without having Morgan in the room.
Morgan opened her mouth no doubt to plead with Henry when Tony spoke. "Morgan, can you please do what your Papa says?" Henry watched as Morgan nodded and walked off to her bathroom leaving Henry alone in the room with Tony on the phone. "Thanks, she left. Tony, I can't express this to you enough, please come back to us." Henry presses his lips together because he knows if he says anything else it would be followed by tears.
Tony coughed and Henry heard a shuffling before Tony came back clearly, Henry knew that meant Tony got choked up as well. "I'm going to do my goddamn hardest to come back to you and Morgan, you would beat my ass if I ever left you again." Henry rolled his eyes at Tony, they hardly ever mentioned the past but they usually make jokes to rib each other. "Ha ha ha, so funny. I'm serious Tony, I love you okay." Henry moves his legs over the edge of the bed and lets out a slight wince when they touched the cold floor.
"I know baby, I love you too. I gotta go alright?" Henry blew out a breath and kissed the phone speaker knowing that Tony would hear. "Mwah, god you're making me look, embarrassed babes." Henry let out a chuckle before answering. "That's what I'm here for." The two of them bid their goodbyes together and they ended the phone call, Henry placed his hands on his knees after he placed his phone in his pocket and scrubbed a hand over his face.
He felt like crying but the face of their sweet little girl Morgan drifted into his mind, he had to be strong, for Morgan. He could cry later in the middle of the night when she's curled in her bed cuddling with the stuffed bunny but right now, Henry had to be strong. He rubbed a hand across his face as he stood up and walked towards his door, he opened it and he plastered a smile on his face like he hit a switch in his mind. "Ready to go feed Gerald?" Henry asks cheerfully as he walked down the stairs. "Yea!" Morgan shouted jumping up making Henry let out a slight chuckle, he ignored the feeling in his heart as he guided Morgan outside and led her towards the little shed where they keep the food for Gerald.
