Henry stared at the wall, he had no idea what time it was all he knew that was in a few days he was going to have to start acting like a normal human because they would be laying Tony to rest, luckily Henry didn't have to make any arrangements. Pepper had written up a statement for the company to release at the same time that they're going to have a small ceremony which afterward they were coming back to the house and they plan on giving Tony a nice send-off but for now, Henry allowed himself to mop, he lost everything after all just a few days ago.
He owes everything to Happy and Rhodey who have set aside their grieving so they can take care of Morgan because Henry can't, everytime he looks at her he sees her confused face on why her Daddy isn't coming home, he sees her sad look when she heard her Papa crying in the middle of the night. Henry isn't ready but he knows that he has to be a parent, at least that's what he tells himself as he reluctantly raises himself into a sitting position in the bed. He wraps the weighted blanket around his shoulders as he stands up and starts to walk out of the bedroom, he remembers that Tony got him this blanket because of all the trips that Tony would have to take at first Henry thought it was stupid but he was glad he had it now.
His footsteps creaked as he walked down the stairs, he was grateful that the house was quiet as he walked towards the kitchen and started to pour himself some coffee. Henry grabbed a coffee mug from the overhead cabinet and started to pour himself some, he grasped it in his hands and turned around, and leaned against the counter. Henry stayed silent as he watched as Peter walked towards the kitchen. "Oh, Hi Mr. Oakley." Peter's voice was coated with surprise as he spoke. "Hey, I thought you would be at school," Henry says before taking a sip of the coffee. Peter hummed as he pulled out a chair at the bar and took a seat at it. "It's Thursday, Aunt May pulled me out of school until Monday." Henry nodded, he didn't have to ask why because he knew it was so Peter could have enough time between the burial and him having to go back to pretending everything is fine.
"You don't have to walk around eggshells around me kid, you lost him too. Even if you deny it he was like a father figure for you and he knew that." Henry was surprised at how composed he was while he was talking to Peter, he didn't realize he had that in him. "I just don't know what to say, after Uncle Ben died everyone was telling me that they were sorry for my loss and I understand how they feel, but they don't. There's no loss for something like this, I can't imagine how you're feeling. I feel like this but you were his husband, you had a child with him while I was some kid who had superpowers that he took under his wing 2 years ago, well it was more for him but you know what I mean." Peter's face turned up when he mentioned the snap, Henry sighed as he walked over to Peter and pulled out the stool next to him, and took a seat. "You know you're very wise for a teenager, you shouldn't have to be." Henry looked at Peter and gave him a kind smile, Henry was the adult, and even though Peter wasn't his biological child he felt like he has to protect him, especially now that Tony is gone.
"Now, have you seen Morgan today?" Henry changes the subject looking at Peter with a raised eyebrow as he takes a sip of his coffee. "Yes, last I saw of her was that she was outside with Happy laughing at him getting bit by Gerald." Peter cracked a slight smirk at the imagery. Henry sighed before shaking his head. "She's being good right?" Henry suddenly says looking at Peter with pursed lips. "She is, for all that is happening she's being good. I think she's confused right now though because I was when my parents died but right now" Peter has to pause and collect himself before he finishes. "Right now she knows that her Dad isn't going to come back, she understands that much." Henry lets out a sniff but he's grateful that Peter doesn't comment on it.
"Okay, thank you Peter for being here the last few days," Henry says as he stands up and starts to walk over to the couch, he sighs as he pulls his legs to his chest and balances his coffee mug on his knees focusing on the slight burn. He was expecting to hear footsteps of Peter walking closer but he doesn't which means that Peter has left Henry alone to be with his thoughts. Henry slowly lets out a shuddering breath, he quickly wipes his eyes to get rid of any tears that might be threatening to fall. He doesn't know when Morgan is going to come storming back inside but he can't let her see him like this, she doesn't need to see that not again.
Henry almost cries on the spot when he hears the sound of Morgan's laughter getting closer to the patio door but he's proud of himself when he keeps it together. "Papa!" Morgan cheered when she saw his head that was peeking out from the weighted blanket. "Hi, my love." Henry beckons Morgan over, and she goes quickly with both Rhodey and Happy following her with slight smiles on their faces but Henry knows that those smiles didn't reach their eyes. "Are you better now Papa?" Morgan presses her hands on his chest so she can look into his eyes as she's on her bent knees. "Not quite but I know what will help." That was all the warning Henry gives her before he gently places the coffee on the side table and grabs her and starts giving her kisses, the ticklishness makes Morgan let out giggles, a sound that Henry soaked in knowing that Tony would want him to do that.
