Daisuke's calming presence cut into the tension when he came downstairs and interrupted the chaotic pattern of the soon to be shit show. He nodded to Freddie, whom he'd called home from rehearsals for damage control backup.
It was that subtle exchange between Freddie and Daisuke that distracted Lucy and ultimately saved Rachael from her swing. What had gotten those two so buddy/buddy swapping secretive glances?
Weaponizing the silence that fell on the room when he took his time coming down stairs, Daisuke swept his long black hair behind his ear, making his face fully visible to Rachael when he faced her. "It's time for you to leave, Ms. Royce."
But not before rummaging through her briefcase for Lucy's application with her birth name, the address of the home, and her request to apply for financing, slamming it onto the coffee table. "You asked for this."
Marissa... disgusting. One step from spitting on the application altogether, Lucy glared at the revolting reminder in full regret of her decision to drag herself (and everyone else) into this.
"My pension alone could pay cash for this house. I never needed your fucking money."
"Yet you had no problem ambushing your way in with this." Unflinching. Unremorseful. Unapologetic.
Freddie pulled Lucy by the arm out the front door and away from another breakout. "I came to get you honey—we don't fucking need this—c'mon dear, I've got to get back. Come with me."
Saved from complete upheaval, Lucy stormed into the back of the car that was waiting for Freddie outside and laid her head on the window, shutting her eyes in pure exhaustion while Freddie made himself good and comfortable next to her.
"That's no place for your head, dear." He slipped his hand behind her neck and pulled her to lay down in his lap, playfully massaging her forehead with his fingers as they pulled off.
Far better than being alone with Phoenix, Violet walked Rachael out to her car, watching her check it for scratches before opening the door.
"I was out of line. Can you make sure she knows that?" She sat her handbag down in the seat and sighed at its emptiness. "I have a mouth on me."
"She's got a mouth on her too." Violet chuckled, careful not to fingerprint her company car's shiny finish. "She doesn't understand how you feel right now. Maybe she will later."
To her surprise, Rachael lit a cigarette. "I never stopped hating my parents for cutting me off when they found out I was pregnant." She shook away the memories that this entire situation had triggered and scolded herself all over again. "Sixteen... Raising not one but two babies..."
"While I wouldn't have put it as harshly as you did... There is something we agree on. You weren't entirely wrong about Freddie," Violet confessed. "It's only a matter of time before she's not enough for him anymore."
"He's a rockstar, you know." Rachael shrugged her shoulders and tapped ash off her cigarette. "I recognized his face the minute he stepped into my office. That stage persona of his that attracts all that attention... she'll learn."

Lucy raised her glass of wine for the last time by the backyard's fountain and bid goodbye to this little Garden of Versailles. "What a shit show this has been, huh?" what a relief it was when everyone laughed with her.
Roger held out an expectant arm for Violet, who bumped into Phoenix on her way to him with the drink he'd requested.
"Really? REALLY? What are you, 13? Why don't you just tell me what the fuck is up." Phoenix was done tiptoeing.
