Three polite knocks to Mary's front door, and she flung it open with obvious surprise to see Lucy on her doorstep.
"I wanna talk." Lucy met her eyes directly.
"...What do you want to talk about...?" Mary crossed her arms, her guard up and evident.
"It's important. Can I come in?"
After a few moments of consideration, Mary stepped aside to let her in, and Lucy opted to take a few steps into the foyer, stopping to face her.
"You and I never got off on the right foot. And to be honest, I never apologized about my role in how things happened when you and Freddie broke up. I know it wasn't easy to be in your position... I can't imagine what it was like for you. How it happened must have been difficult for you. I'm sorry."
Mary took a deep breath before offering acknowledgment. "What's done is done... But I suppose that is satisfying to some extent."
"I don't expect this to fix everything for us. I hardly expect this to fix anything, honestly. You're important to Freddie, too. And I respect that. But that man you came to the party with..." Lucy emphasized, referring to Jonas. "I think he's trying to take advantage of Freddie. And he may be trying to go through you..." Lucy softened her voice. "What's going on with you and Jonas?"
"I... I didn't know that he'd been involved with Freddie..." Mary sighed and shook her head. "What started as going out with my friends and trying to move on... We met at a shop when he visited Seattle and now that I look at things again.. He probably just came there because Freddie was in the city, and I was someone close to him. But, when he saw me, he made a beeline for me. He was so... interested in me. It made me feel special again. And wanted. Something I hadn't felt since the early days of Freddie and I..."
Understanding well enough now, she nodded. "I'm actually really struggling to move on from someone too... from a man who was important in my life. Trying to move on sucks..." Heaving a heavy sigh, she stepped toward the door to let herself out, touching Mary's shoulder before she departed. "Thank you for letting me in and sharing this with me. I don't want Jonas to hurt you, either."

"My my.. Mr. Mercury... A call from you? I almost think it's too good to be true..." Jonas answered on the other end of the line.
"I'm not Mr. Mercury... But you can call me Mrs. Mercury if that's what you'd like to fantasize about tonight," came Lucy's sardonic tone over the phone. "You've had a history of showing up in my life unexpectedly so... here I am this time."
"Look, whatever you want, I don't care. Freddie and I made an agreement. It was between me and him. Not you."
"Ahh... an agreement? Did you make a deal with Freddie that for you to keep quiet, he'd have to pay you off?"
