Back to New York. Back to school, back to work. The new year entered, leaving the winter break behind, starting the routine again.
Max was back at her school, with her best friends. Their vacations went pretty well, but now it was time for school again. It was a normal night, Max studying on her bed, with the book folded in her hands and a pencil between her teeth. She was getting bored, she had been standing there, studying for hours, getting numb. The redhead placed the math's book down with the pencil and sighed loudly with her mouth.
"You tired?" - Jayden asked as she raised her head from her laptop.
"A lot! I think I need a break. I'll go skateboarding." - Max suggested and stood from her bed.
"It's late and there is snow everywhere."
"Who cares?! Plus, I need to clean my head."
Max wore her winter outfit: oversized yellow hoodie, black beanie, black Vans sneakers and the coat on.The redhead, for her luck, found some cleaned streets, without snow or ice. She rode and rode and the skateboard's wheels took her at "The Copacabana Times Square" club. Max glanced the building, from nowhere she had a desire to see Jane. Just some seconds later, Max's eyes caught her, the bartender, Jane, walking out of the club. She probably closed her shift, Max thought. The redhead pushed her left leg forward, approaching the tall brunette. As she got closer, Max tapped her shoulder gently. Jane frowned at first and turned around, her temper changing into a surprising one.
"Oh, you again?! What are you doing here?"
"I was just skateboarding and suddenly you showed up, so I thought why not
surprising you like you did, back to Hawkins."
"Mine was kinda scary though." - the bartender smirked.
"Yeah yeah, but I wasn't in the mood to play games, actually."
"I see."
"So... you wanna have a ride?" - Max shoved her skateboard with her leg.
"It's kinda late?!"
"Oh c'mon, just a ride. A small break from our boring routine."
Jane chuckled softly and thought about it for some seconds.
"Um, okay."
"Cool! I guess you can ride a skateboard, huh?"
"Yeah, I've tried it before."
"Good."
So the two girls started walking together to the park. They arrived fast. The park was not totally empty, just some teens smoking, farther from the girls. Max found a good field, where it was cleaned from the snow. She put the skateboard down and turned to Jane.
"Jump."
"Why do I have to be the first?"
"'Cause you're my skateboard's guest."
"Oh yeah." - Jane chuckled. - "Okay, fine." - she nodded and jumped on the skateboard. The tall brunette started riding, pushing her leg forward and backward. She started speeding while smiling.
Max was looking at her from the distance. A soft smile formed on her lips, her eyes glittering. She felt a weird feeling inside her stomach, but pleasant at the same time. But her expression changed when she saw Jane slipping from the skateboard, collapsing on the ground. The redhead rushed to her and bent down, placing a hand on Jane's shoulder.
"Hey, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"Get away!" - the brunette pushed her hand away and placed her right hand on her left elbow, hissing with her teeth.
"Is your arm hurt?"
"I shouldn't have done it. Why did you suggest it?"
"What did I do wrong? I was just making you an offer and you accepted it." - Max shrugged innocently.
"Fuck it, I'm going home." - Jane stood up, angry and without looking at Max or giving her a "goodbye", she left.
Max stood there, shocked and confused. Everything was fine until Jane got hurt. Maybe it was really her fault. The redhead only shook her head and took the skateboard. This break wasn't a good idea.Max walked back to her school, getting inside her dorm. Her friend was already asleep. The redhead wore her pajamas and laid on her bed, sighing with her nose. She couldn't get her mind away from Jane. And that weird feeling appeared again. Max was too confused with herself, and these feelings. She could have a crush on this girl, Max thought. Only thinking about her made the redhead open the shelf next to her bed, grabbing her diary with the pen on the other side, opening it and starting writing. She was sure she was starting to have feelings for this girl, a girl which she wasn't friend with, a girl which she only had one long conversation, back to Hawkins on winter's break. Max kept writing on her diary until she got tired and laid down to sleep.
