Demi's POV:

The last contestant of the night was performing on stage and I was starting to get bored and tired. I love x-factor but it can be so draining and have such long days.

I looked over next to me and glanced at Simon, who had a look of disgust on his face. Man, he does not like this singer I don't blame him though. I don't know what happened between the auditions and judge's cuts.

Finally, the singer finished and looked hopefully at all four of us.

"Sweetie, what happened?" Kelly asked sweetly.

"I was expecting a lot more from you" Paulina stated.

The contestant was voted off the competition and finally the night was over.

We started to get out of our seats when my whole world fell apart.

A loud gunshot went off in the arena and screams came from every direction as everyone was in a panic and trying to evacuate the arena. Everything happened so fast, and I still don't understand. All I remember is Simon pushing me down under the table.

"Demi?! Simon?! Are you guys okay?" Kelly asked us in a shaky voice.

"Yeah, I'm ok. Simon?" I asked Simon who was also on the ground next to me.

I saw blood underneath his body and gasped. Simon had been shot.

"Simon, please wake up. Oh my god" I cried checking for a pulse.

"The paramedics are on the way, and will be here shortly. Ms. Lovato, you need to calm down. The shooter escaped through the crowd as they left the arena. The cops are going to be searching for them. I need to escort you three ladies to safety. My coworker will stay with Mr. Cowell and make sure he is taken to the hospital as soon as possible" a security guard for the building explained.

I shook my head quickly.

"No, I can't leave Simon here. He's unconscious and bleeding out. I need to be with him"

Max came over with another guard and shared a look with the guard I was speaking with.

"Demetria, come on. Simon is in good hands. We need to get you girls out of here now. We can argue later, now let's go!" Max demanded and led me away from Simon with Kelly and Paulina trailing behind us.

Max led us outside through the security side door and at the same time an ambulance pulled up. We stepped aside to let them pass as they hurried to help Simon.

"Demi, we will meet them at the hospital, come on." Max told me as he saw the look of desperation on my face.

At the hospital:

I paced back and forth for what felt like hours. Simon was rushed into the hospital for surgery to remove the bullet from his chest. I am so worried right now, and the doctors still have not updated us on his surgery or have told us when he will be out of surgery.

"Demi, please sit down" Max told me gently.

"It's been hours, Max. I don't understand what happened. No one is telling us anything. Not the police, not the doctors, what is going on?" I asked yelling at him.

"Demi, please. You need to take a breath and have a seat. It's only been an hour. You have a lot of adrenaline coursing through your veins now, and are rightfully freaking out right now. Please sit down, and try to calm down a little bit. I am waiting for my police contact to call me back regarding the shooter" Max explained to me calmly.

It had only been an hour? I sat down and tried to calm down a little bit praying for Simon to recover.

Just then, Max's phone rang.

"Hello? Yes....Yes? I see. Okay, thank you for updating me, I will be in touch" Max stated on the phone.

"What happened?" I asked as soon as Max hung up.

"The police reviewed the CCTV footage of the arena. The shooter looks very similar to Javier and was aiming for you when Simon noticed and pushed you out of the way" Max explained hesitantly.

"I don't understand, I thought that the guy was locked up in jail. Did he escape or something? I thought this was over" I asked feeling guilty that I was the cause of Simon being in the hospital fighting for his life.

"That's the thing, Javier was in his jail cell the entire time. The police suspect that they may have arrested the wrong guy. My contact said they are interrogating Javier again and running a criminal database search for similar facial features that match Javier." Max explained to me just as a surgeon in scrubs came into the waiting room.

"Hello, I am Dr. Bailey. You are here for Mr. Cowell, correct?" the female surgeon asked us.

I nodded and waited to hear the updates on my boyfriend.

"The bullet missed his heart by a few inches, he was very lucky. He did lose a bit of blood, which is why he was unconscious after being shot. We removed the bullet and he is resting and recovering in the intensive care unit. He is in room 3A. Only one person can visit at a time. We expect him to be allowed to be discharged after a week," The doctor explained to us.

"Thank you" Max replied for us as I was still in a bit of a shock.

I thanked God that Simon was alive and okay.

"Demi go visit Simon first, we'll wait here" Kelly told me.

I walked to his room nervously and saw Simon in a hospital bed with an iv in his arm.

"Simon?" I asked gently checking if he was awake right now.

He stirred, but did not wake up.

"I'm so glad you're okay. I'm so sorry you got hurt trying to protect me. Simon, I'm in love with you so please wake up so that I can say it to your smirking know it all face" I said in between tears while gently holding his hand.

I left shortly afterwards and returned to the waiting room.

"Demi how is he?" Paulina asked me.

"He looks so fragile right now. He was unconscious when I went in"

"While you were inside, my contact called me again. Turns out, Javier was adopted as a child, and has a twin named Carlos. The cops were able to trace Carlos's IP address and connected him to an online forum dedicated to you where he would post some disturbing things. He also was seen buying a gun on security footage at a Wal-Mart. They have the entire police department searching for him, but are keeping Javier in custody for another 20 hours in case he is involved" Max explained to me.

This was a lot to take in, but all I want is this freak to stop harassing and targeting my loved ones and me.
