Chapter seven

Alex's p.o.v

"My cousin, huh?" Shawn asked and I laughed.

"She's the mysterious racer!" I said and he shook his head.

"I have told her not to get herself in trouble."

"And I've warned Angela not to be involved in racing, but last night she was there!" I pursed my lips. "Speaking of, where is she now?"

"She's in Annie's room helping her get ready." He said and let out a breath of relief. 

"Is she alright?" I asked.

"A bit shocked, but nothing she can't handle. You want to go see her?" He asked.

"Yes!" 

I stood up and started walking to the door. We walked two doors down and then we turned left. When we stood in front of her door, I froze.

"Are you going to knock or not?" Shawn asked confused.

"I don't know if I can face her. She almost died because of me. I led us to that trap. If I had listened to her, we wouldn't be in this hospital."

"Yes, you're right! I you had listened to me, we wouldn't be here." The door opened and Annie stood there arms crossed. "But the attack wasn't your fault!"

Was she really saying these words or was it me imagining it? 

"No, I'm here!" I must have said that out loud.

"I'm terribly sorry!" I lowered my head. 

"Look at me!" She lifted my head. Next thing I knew, she slapped me. "Stop blaming yourself for things you have no control over!"

I looked at her wide eyed and she lifted her left brow at me. No-one  would not even think about talking back to me, let alone slap me. No-one but her. She was fearless, smart and crazy! I smiled at her and she smiled back.

"Now, can we go home? I swear if I stay here one more minute, I'm going to kill someone!" I laughed at her. I'm pretty sure she would.

"Yes, but neither of you are driving!" Shawn announced and we gave him a bored look.

"Fine, mom!" Annie said and everyone laughed, except Shawn, who gave her a warning look.

"I'm still mad about the races!" He said and Annie and Angela looked surprised and then laughed.

"You own me 50$!" Annie turned to Angela. What was happening?

"Hold up, you knew that I know you race?" Shawn looked more shocked than I did.

"Please, we're one of the most powerful mafia in the country, hell, perhaps in the entire planet! You think I don't know that everything I have has a tracker?" She reasoned and I felt proud. "It was only a matter of time before you confronted me about it!"

"So, you made a bet?" He asked and she nodded smiling. "You're unbelievable!" 

"Thanks!" She said and hoped in his car.

I got in after her and Angela sat in the front seat. I didn't mind because I wanted to discuss something with Annie.

"Don't they look good together?" She said pointing towards Shawn and Angela.

He was saying something to her and she was laughing hysterically. I smiled at that. It had been a while since I had last heard her laugh so hard.

"Yeah, they do!" I said and then I turned to her. "Are they dating?"

"It's complicated. No, it's actually pretty simple! They flirt all the time, but neither of them has the guts to confess their feelings!" She turned to look at me with a wicked grin.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked.

"We are going to set them up!" She looked dangerous and I was loving it.

"What are you two whispering about?" Shawn asked looking at us through the mirror.

"None of your business!" Annie shot back at him smiling innocently.
