Chapter fifteen

Angela's p.o.v

"Where's Annie?" I asked as I sat down on the left side of the dinner table. Luisa had made her favourite dish, therefore it was impossible for Annie to skip dinner.

I looked to my side and Shawn had lowered his head, avoiding eye contact. Turning my head towards my father, I was met with the same scenery. That's weird! Maybe, Alex knows something?

"I see! The love birds flew away with each other!" I stated noticing Alex's empty seat.

"Angela, they're not dating!" Shawn finally looked at me.

"You seriously believe that?" I laughed.

"No! I was just messing with you!" Shawn joined in on the laughter. "Their chemistry is way too obvious!"

"True!" I shrugged.

"It seems that I need to have a talk with my son! Aiden, may he rest in peace, has left me in charge of some unfinished business and I must take care of them!" Dad said. Basically, my brother was a dead man if he broke Annie's heart.

"That won't be necessary, Roy!" Annie's mom stated sipping on her drink.

"You mean, you have warned Alex?" Dad asked.

"Yes! Now, can you tell me what happened at the tunnels?"

"We'll discuss it after dinner!" Shawn said in his business tone.

"No! What happened at the tunnels for her to skip her favourite meal?" Mrs. Carson fired at him and he sighed.

"She killed someone today!" He lowered his voice, but we all heard him.

Oh my God! Annie killed someone! She must be feeling horrible and guilty! Her first kill...

"Excuse me!" I got up and went to my bedroom.

I sat on the bed and grabbed a picture of me and Annie back when we were in kindergarten. We were smiling proudly at the camera, even though both of us had some missing teeth. Then, the door opened.

"Why are you upset?" Shawn asked.

"I failed!" I confessed standing up.

"What do you mean?" He sat on my bed forcing me to sit down as well.

"Best friends are supposed to be there for each other! She was there whenever I needed her! And yet, the one time she needs me, I'm nowhere to be found!" A few tears slipped down my face.

"Hey! There's nothing you could've done!" He grabbed my face with one hand and whipped away my tears with the other. "She needed to get through this alone!

"You don't understand!" I lightly shook my head. "I should've been the-"

The rest of the sentence flew away once his lips met mine. I soon felt myself respond to the kiss. Our first kiss!

"I said, she needed to get through this alone!" He pulled away and both of us were out of breath.

"Awe!" We heard a feminine voice speak. I didn't need to turn my head to know that the voice belonged to my crazy best friend.

"About time!" Alex said relieved.

"Hold on! I just kissed your sister and you don't want to put a bullet through my scull?!" Shawn was beyond surprised by Alex's words. And so was I.

"You're the only one who has dared to make a move on her and for that alone, I decided not to kill you!" Alex shrugged.

"But that doesn't mean that you won't be dead if you break her heart though!" Annie interfered and Alex nodded.

"So you're a team now?" I teased.

Annie turned hesitantly to Alex not knowing what to say. It was very unusual to see her nervous about anything, let alone about a guy!

"No! We're more than that!" Alex stated staring into Annie's eyes and she smiled.

"Get a room!" Shawn faked disgust.

"We're good!" Annie shrugged.

"But you on the other hand," Alex teased.

Embarrassment made its way to my cheeks. Life really hated me. First I get red when Shawn kissed me. Now I get red from my brothers teasing! What's next? Turning red when I die?

"Annie, can you please slap him for me?" I smiled at her.

"No can do!" She shook her head. "My hands are busy warming up by your brother's."

Alex lifted her hand while grinning like a maniac. I didn't miss the twinkle  in his eyes when looking at her.

It felt kind of weird but in the best way possible knowing that I was blessed to have my best friend as my brother's girlfriend. Both maniacs, stubborn and protective! 

Annie was wrong when she said that Alex and Shawn were each other's half!

It was her!

The equal of my brother was Annie!
