You let out a deep and long breath as you lay on the grass in front of Sonia's lab. Leon and Gloria had just gone inside, leaving you on your own.
Charizard, who had been sitting in front of the doors waiting for Leon, walked over to you when he heard you huff and puff. With a large thump he sat down next to you before moving to lay down, just like you were, and wrapping his tail and neck protectively around you.
You craned your neck to look up at Charizard, seeing him look back at you with one open eye. "Why do you like me Charizard?" You contemplated out loud. "I've done nothing for you to like me." Charizard lifted his head up until it was hovering over yours before snapping his jaw at you with a happy sounding sound. "Clarifying." You chuckled before closing your eyes.
The Pokéball in your bag twitched and you blindly took it out before releasing Rookidee. The little bird immediately hopped over to you and Charizard, jumping onto your chest before curiously looking at Charizard. When he saw you had your eyes closed, Rookidee sat down on your chest before puffing out his own. As if saying that he would protect you, together with Charizard.
You saw none of it, only felt the little bird jump on your chest. Leon however, had just walked out of the lab, finding you, seemingly, sleeping on the grass with Charizard curled around you and Rookidee in a protective mode. He chuckled softly and took out his phone, taking a quick picture.
Once he had put the Rotom phone back in his pocket, he walked over to the little group and sat down next to you in a cross-legged position. Almost immediately, Rookidee started making a fuss, angrily and defensively chirping at Leon.
"Rookidee, leave him alone." You muttered sleepily and the little bird stopped, looking at Leon guiltily.
"I told you you should have taken the bed." Leon chuckled and you finally opened your eyes, raising your head in confusion. "You didn't get a good night's sleep because you were sleeping on the couch, right?"
You chuckled and placed your head back down, closing your eyes once more. "No, your couch is very comfy. I'm just basking in the sun and thinking." You smiled and Leon hummed, letting a comfortable silence fall between you two.
"Leon?" You suddenly asked, opening your eyes again and turning your head towards him. Leon looked back at you with a questioning expression. "Why are you so keen on helping me?"
Leon's eyes wandered forward as he thought, staring into the fields where Wooloo played. "Because you are my friend and I want to help you find your Pokémon."
"Because you feel partially responsible?" You asked but Leon turned back to look at you. He smiled and shook his head.
"No. I want to help because I like you as a person. Back at the hospital, you wanted to jump out of bed and help your Pokémon, not even thinking for a second about your own health. I have known you for just four days but you have already showed me more passion and love for life than people I have know for years. I want to help because I truly just want to."
It took a lot for you not to tear up at his words. You took a deep breath to try and keep your breathing to stay normal and looked at him. "Thank you." It came out as a whisper and Leon went to place a comforting hand on your shoulder, when a force suddenly pushed him from behind.
He yelped in surprise and toppled forward, basically landing on top of you. He had managed to catch himself by putting his hands on either side of your head so that he wouldn't crush you, but only barely. His face was centimeters away from yours as he hovered over you. Both of your cheeks heated up like a flame as you sat there in shocked silence, eyes wide.
After a few more seconds, Leon seemed to snap out of it and quickly got up, looking back to see who had pushed him while you propped yourself up onto your elbows, eyes still wide.
Behind Leon sat Charizard, happily swishing his tail. Rookidee was sitting on Charizard's head and if a bird could grin, he was certainly doing that right now.
Leon cleared his throat and you sat up properly, hoping that would make the blood stop rushing to your face. "Anyways, uh. What about your Champion duties?" You tentatively asked.
"The Gym Challenge is starting, yes." He admitted. "But it's not like that will be taking up my time every day. In fact, with me being the Champion, I don't have that much to do in the coming weeks. A few interviews here and there. Maybe Chairman Rose will need me. Other than that, I am free to travel Galar with you." Leon smiled a warm smile at you and you could feel your heart flutter.
"Well, uh, only if you want to then."
"I want to."
The blush that had just settled came back on your face at the warm and kind look Leon gave you, and you cleared your throat to shrug it off. "Shall- Shall we start then?"

Leon was walking through route 2, thinking about what had happened in front of Sonia's lab. Every word he said was true, but why? Why was he feeling so strongly and so passionately about helping you? It made no sense. Was it you? Would that even be possible in such a short time? He certainly did feel something when he was around you. Just then, two familiar figures caught his eye, breaking him out of his thought spiral and he ran up to them.
"...It's time we filled in out teams a bit-" He heard Hop say and smiled as he came to a halt in front of the kids.
"And I'm here to teach you how!"
"Lee?! Where'd you come from? And where's Y/N?" Hop asked, jumping in fright at his brother's sudden appearance.
"Oh, she's around here somewhere. We've lost each other for a bit." Leon sheepishly laughed.
"What? How?" Gloria piped up. "This route is like, totally linear." She exclaimed, pointing to the stairs that marked the beginning of the route - which were still very clearly visible.
"Oh it doesn't work, Gloria." Hop sighed. "Lee would even get lost in a cardboard box and it seems Y/N isn't any better with directions."
"Come, come, Hop. Don't underestimate us now. You're talking to the unbeatable Champion after all."
"And I'm sure you'll stay unbeatable at being the worst with directions." Gloria snickered, causing Leon to raise an eyebrow while Hop giggled as well.

After showing the two how to catch a Pokémon, Leon continued running past route two. His plan was to just run it up and down until he found you again. Just like he had been for the past fifteen minutes before he ran into Hop and Gloria.

Hop was actually the one to find you. He led you to the Professor's home before going to get Leon, who was luckily not too far away.
"Sorry, that Chewtle just really reminded me of Torterra when he was still a little Turtwig, I had to get a closer look." You smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of your head as you apologised to Leon.
Professor Magnolia stood to the side and it didn't escape her that Leon had small blush on his cheeks as he looked at you. She was wise enough to not say anything though and once you opened your eyes and looked at Leon, the blush was gone.
"It's fine. Luckily, we had Hop around." Leon smiled to his little brother and Hop proudly puffed out his chest.
"Couldn't you kids just call one another to find each other again?" Professor Magnolia shook her head and both you and Leon froze. You had forgotten all about your phones.
Before anything else could be said, Gloria arrived and the Professor invited you all inside.
