"tae, come help me package these paintings before we go." jungkook gestured towards the mini canvases lined up on the wooden table. jungkook had painted a set of mini canvases for a sky landscape collection, and he was sending them off to their purchasers before they left for daegu, since they would be staying there for a few days.
it seemed jungkook was infatuated with painting skies. all the canvases had a mixture clouds and sky blossomed on them, but each painting was distinct, whether it was the color palette he used which altered the mood of the painting, or how the clouds morphed into different shapes and danced endlessly in pause on the surface of the canvases.
taehyung was captivated by jungkook's work. he was not very good at art himself, so he was appalled that his boyfriend possessed such skills. yet, he was frustrated that jungkook refused to paint something for him. why not?? i'm his boyfriend, aren't i? it's just a painting.
he shrugged the irritation off his shoulders, figuring jungkook was just insecure or uncomfortable. he would get a painting from him someday, hopefully.
little did he know, jungkook was working on a painting for him. it was a very special painting that jungkook had spent many nights perfecting. he tried to incorporate every aspect of his love for taehyung into the painting.
after all, they had been together for over a month now, and it would be cruel for jungkook to refuse his boyfriend a painting (when he mentioned it on the weekly, at that). he wanted to wait until the perfect time to give taehyung the painting. now was just not the time. but he knew his boyfriend would love it.
taehyung helped him wrap the mini canvases in brown paper, tying them with colored ribbon, then securing a handwritten note from jungkook onto the each of the bows.
he finished securing the last note, flipping the calligraphy written "thank you" side of the white card-stock over. there was a watercolor flower painted daintily across the top of the card and a message in the center, written with fancy but neat handwriting, which taehyung found to be the prettiest handwriting to exist in the whole universe. he traced his finger over the words.
"𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒂," he read. taehyung assumed that it was jungkook's customer's name.
he smiled at the cute note, then turned the card back over, placing the last painting next the the other readied packages. "done!" he dusted off his hands and put his hands on his waist, smiling triumphantly at jungkook to see his reaction.
"good job, tae, they look great. thanks a bunch." taehyung's breath hitched as jungkook approached him and placed a peck on his cheek. his heart pulsated loudly from his chest, even thought this wasn't the first time they had acted so intimate with each other. he couldn't believe how lucky he was to have jungkook as his boyfriend.
he had never felt so loved, so cherished by someone. jungkook was the first to really listen to what he had to say, the first to care. jungkook completed him. jungkook opened up his heart to the world, when he had closed it off for so long.
taehyung decided he would give this boy all of his love and make him the happiest boy in the world, even if it took more than he could afford. jungkook was the most precious person in the world to him. he would do anything to make him happy.
this is what he thought, as jungkook's bunny smile appeared on his face, making the room glow with an enlightened energy. taehyung grinned back unconsciously with his cheeky boxy smile.
"okay, are you all packed and ready? we should head out soon." it was the morning of the funeral, what both boys, but especially taehyung, had been dreading the whole week.
jungkook ruffled his hair and slipped on a windbreaker, glancing at taehyung, who nodded solemnly, mood changing in the span of a second. he nodded his eyes towards a navy blue suitcase near the door, a white and red stripe boldly painted through the center. they made their way to the front door, slipping on their sneakers in comfortable yet deafening silence, only speaking to bid their byes to jimin and hobi.
jungkook put on some relaxing songs to break the now unbearable sadness drifting in the atmosphere. "older" by sasha sloan shuffled onto the player, making taehyung gasp. he loved this song.
he sang along, making jungkook swoon at his deep, soothing voice. jungkook felt chills go down his spine as taehyung sang, each word finely pronounced and drawing out like a paintbrush. the song finished, and as if on cue, they reached the hotel.
they quickly entered, checked in, plopped down their suitcases in their room, and changed into their outfits.
taehyung sighed, fixing the collar of his black suit in the mirror. jungkook entered and glanced at him lovingly through the mirror, handsome as hell to taehyung, making him woo, even on the dreariest of days.
"you look great," jungkook assured, wrapping his arms around taehyung's waist.
"thanks, baby." they both gave each other small smiles, taehyung trying his best to appear okay. jungkook knew he wasn't. but he didn't mention it, just reassuringly kissing taehyung's cheek and slipping on his shiny black pointed-toe shoes.
taehyung and jungkook stepped back into the car, backed out of their parking space and exited the parking garage slowly, tires echoing in the vast space.
taehyung prepared himself mentally as they entered the freeway. everything was going to be okay. he was older now; he was more mature. he could handle this. he would finally be able to bid his goodbye. and she would be able to rest, no more fights and stress nonexistent. right?
jungkook must have been a physic. as if he could read his mind, he reached over to taehyung, calming his raging waves of muddy thoughts with just one touch. he rested his thin hand on taehyung's thigh reassuringly, squeezing it once, then grabbed his left hand to intertwine their fingers.
"hey."
taehyung looked to his boyfriend in the driver's seat, doe eyes full of sympathy and honest concern.
"it's okay."
