﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋

taehyung blinked away his tears, squeezing jungkook's hand harder as they approached the funeral home. jungkook sensed his anxiety and rubbed his thumb soothingly over taehyung's fingers.

taehyung took three deep breaths. one. two. three. he nodded to jungkook, indicating that he was ready to enter the church.

there were colorful flower bouquets lined up along both sides of the walls leading up to the white casket, which lay horizontally in the center back of the thick-walled room.

as their shoes clicked softly on the carpeted floor, taehyung's dad turned his head, spotting his son with a sweet-looking man. he discussed with taehyung and knew that this man was his boyfriend. he gave a sad smile as he approached them, eyes flickering over to his son, whom he hadn't seen in years. tears dropped quickly down his face. he threw his arms around taehyung, feeling his son break down in his hold.

they sobbed together, two broken souls, grieving both their unmendable relationship and the loss of taehyung's mother.

jungkook stepped away, allowing them to have their moment, and sat down in an empty row, black suit meeting velvety cushion.

taehyung soon joined him, sniffling in all his glory. jungkook held his hand, reaching in front of him to grab taehyung a thick stack of tissues.

"all immediate family members, please come up to the casket to say goodbye."

taehyung stumbled towards the center of the room, eyes bloodshot and face messy with tears and snot.

"m-mom," taehyung spoke out, voice trembling and fractured cries shaking the room. jungkook could do nothing except sit there in his seat, eyesight blurred, heart crumbling with every cry that erupted from his boyfriend's mouth. he gripped the edge of his seat, knuckles paling to a bright white.

"i-i'm so sorry," taehyung gasped. he bent over on his knees, face wet with unspoken sorrow and buried truths, tears of unconfessed love.

"i ne-ever e-even s-said good-b-bye to you before i left," everyone else in the room teared up more as they listened to the dead woman's son cry out in agony.

"i.. i l-love you. i love you, mom. i-i love y-you so m-much. and i'm so sor-ry."

he couldn't even look inside the casket. it was too much for him. he stumbled unsurely over to his father, who embraced him with trembling hands. "son.. i'm sorry as well. i.. i was a horrible f-father," his dad spoke, making taehyung cry harder.

"it's okay. i forgive you." they hugged tightly, both shoulders soaked with each other's pain.

it was jungkook's turn to walk up, and he did so with the most steadiness he could muster. he had never met his boyfriend's mother nor his father, but he knew the roles they played in his boyfriend's past.

nevertheless, when he saw taehyung so broken in his father's arms, it hurt him. so much.

he knew that despite everything that happened, they were still, in the end, his family. he still cared about them, clouded childhood pushed aside.

he glanced at the peaceful expression on taehyung's mother's face as he neared her casket. she was beautiful like an angel, in her white laced dress and flowers surrounding her body.

jungkook could see traces of taehyung in the wrinkles of her pale skin. it seemed like she had endured a tough life, but with a strong spirit. he thanked her for raising the incredible man that was his boyfriend, and bowed deeply.

thank you.

he hoped that her spirit could roam freely, without any pressure of worries she carried while alive, up in heaven. that she would be happy, for her son.

the rest of the funeral went by in a blur. distant family and friends threw an assortment of roses onto the casket before the burial, taehyung and his father throwing in purple flowers. purple was also his mother's favorite color.

they drove back to the hotel in silence. taehyung, exhausted, leaned his head against the car window, glancing out at the sea and birds that flew in circles and twirled around in the sky. the fog over the beach was slowly rolling away, sunlight beaming through softly.

"jungkook," taehyung talked in a low tone, voice almost a whisper.

"reality sucks."

jungkook chuckled at taehyung's dry humor. he looked over to his boyfriend, who was now blatantly staring at him with sad yet humorous eyes.

"yeah."

jungkook's charming doe eyes sparkled like the sunlight reflecting off the surface of a stream, a smile tugging at his cherry red lips. taehyung's gaze traced the outline of jungkook's features, making him wonder how an angel like him existed in this world.

a few seconds of silence passed as they reached a red light.

"tae." he hummed.

"let's escape." taehyung's ears had never heard anything more beautiful.

"escape with me. from our fucked up reality."
