Harry rushes out of the bus, thankful that he makes it just as quickly as he needed. The continuous stomping of his boots against the tarmac somehow drowning out the unnerving sound of his heart hammering against his chest. He prays...and prays...and prays that nothing wrong happened to Charlie.
Please be safe, please be safe, Charlie. Please be safe, the words replay inside his head over and over like a quiet mantra.
Got a call from the hospital. Couldn't wait for you. Have a safe flight. Ü
Though he runs as fast as he could to shorten the distance between him and the entrance of the hospital building, it still feel as though the winding road continues to extend, mocking him just when his desperate attempt to get to Charlie in time seems closer.
A sharp breath leaves his trembling lips once he is able to push the glass door, followed by his feet stepping inside the squeaky tiled floor. He jog towards the nurse station, asking for a certain Charlie Baker but he only receives sets of incredulous stare from the nurses behind the counter.
"We don't have a patient by that name." The woman in white uniform says, her round eyeglasses perch over her nose, jade eyes squinted as she scrutinizes him. "But we know a certain Charlie. What are you to her?" She asks sternly while placing her hand by her waist, raising her brow and pressing her lips together.
"Jess." The other one with auburn hair interrupts, pulling Jess' shoulder to get her attention. "You're scaring the poor guy." She says softly and Harry sighs in relief, wishing that one of them would finally tell him where Charlie is. "Who are you? Why the hell are you looking for her? Are you from interpool? Charlie is innoce-"
"Odessa. What the hell?" The third nurse speaks over the other girl's harsh questionning before looking back at Harry apologetically. "I'm sorry about these two. They get a little bit excited sometimes."
"I'm nummph-!"
"Shut the heck up, Jess, please?!" The nurse demands, clamping the Jess-nurse's mouth before she could even have the chance to finish her sentence.
The Jess-nurse glares at the third nurse but keeps quiet, the second one attempts to open her mouth but the third nurse gives her a warning look so she just turns out gasping.
"As I was saying, I apologize for these two. We're friends with Charlie so you could say these two morons are a little bit out of boundary when they're overcome with overprotectiveness." She glares at the two other nurses when they attempted to disagree with her yet again. "I'm Kristine and these are Jess and Odessa." She introduces herself and the other two respectively.
"I am just wondering where she is right now. Her text told me she's here." Harry speaks smoothly, keeping his nerves at bay.
"Oh yeah, let me check. His grandfather was admitted at 6:56PM." Kristine explains as she types on the keyboard of her computer, eyes focused solely on the screen.
Jess and Odessa take this an opportunity to interrogate the curly lad, their arms folded over the chest-tall counter of the nurse station.
"What do you do for a living? How are you going to feed Charlie? Do you have insurances?"
"What's your name? Where are you from? Do you live in an apartment or your own house?"
"Your eyes are so green...just like mine."
"What do you use for your hair?"
Harry tries to keep up with the questions, but to no avail. He'd open his mouth to answer but he'd also be bombarded with another set of questions. To make matters worse, he's quite certain he'd get whiplash for the rapid movement of his neck as his attention travels back and forth between the two.
