Blinding lights cloud your vision as your eyes painfully adjust. At first you were confused as to what was going on but the second you looked around, you realised that everything around you appeared as though it were drawn or animated. Your body shot up in your hospital bed; twisting and turning your wrists, you began to shake. Where you hallucinating? Was this a dream? Everything was perfectly clear, you could feel things fine, you could even hear your heartbeat thumping out of time with your heavy breaths.
A pathetic wry cry croaked free. More like an unsure yelp. You kicked your cover off of you. Your legs were exposed in some sort of school uniform you knew you recognise from somewhere. It was a white button up shirt with a dusty sort of burgendy bow tied at your collar. The black skirt was shorter than you ever wore as a 'school uniform'. You noticed across the room on a chair at a small desk lay a beige, sleeveless cardigan and a black blazer. Beneath the chair was a brown book bag and a pair of black school shoes. Sort of shiny as the light slipped off its curves.
"Miss L/N!" A woman hurried in the room. She wore a long white robe over her regular clothes. Her hair was pinned back into a ponytail. But what caught my attention is that her figure, her face, her eyes, her features, everything about her mirrored an anime character!
"AHHHHHHhhhhhHhHhhH!!!"
Later that same afternoon, everything began to make a slightest bit more sense. Last night I got hit by a car on my way back to the girls. Something must have happened between last night and this morning where I apparently got hit by another car on my way to school. This doesn't seem to be a dream since my body feels alive as thought it were reality. Maybe I was just hallucinating? No that can't be.
I was scrolling through my phone. At least something was familiar. The same background of Sugawara, the same phone make and apps. The only difference was that none of the contacts or people I followed on social medias were the same. All names in my contacts were foreign to me. Apart from one.
"Kiyoko Shimizu??"
'The same Kiyoko from Haikyuu??' you opened your messages. You two seemed to not talk much. You wondered if it truly was the same girl. It may determine if you were hallucinating or if this was your new reality.
Taking a leap out of curiosity, you text Kiyoko. She seemed to be aware of the car crash. Word sure does spread fast huh? She invited you to meet up soon as you were let out. Of course, you accepted and in a hurry you threw on the clothes that sat on the chair, grabbed the unfamiliar bag and left the hospital after thanking the staff.
The sun was about to begin to set. The world did look pretty spectacular. Light pouring on every turn, wind breezing past ever so gently picking up its strength as the night approached. It was quite calming to say the least. Your steps felt heavy and forced. As though dragging yourself to cooperate. Fear courses through you with each thump of your foot. However in such a panic of a day, you finally found a slither of peace.
Soon enough you reach the convenience store. Identical to the one coach Ukai owns. Your heart began to race. You knew that some of the buildings in Haikyuu were real like Karasuno and the gym, but you kept your hopes up. Kind of excited. Even if it were a meer dream. It can be a happy one.
You leaned your back against the glass of the store, clutching your bag strap and staring off into the sky, waiting. With each second you began to convince yourself this was real life.
"L/N!" You heard a familiar voice from the distance. You turn to your right and there she was. The Kiyoko Shimizu in all her glory. As she ran over to you, you noticed something else. Behind her was a group of shadowed figures. The sunset hit their backs, covering their faces as they came down from the curved road's peak.
It surely was a beautiful sight you never though you'd experience. Karasuno's volleyball team stared at you and Kiyoko, well most of them. Standing at the very front also grasping their bag's strap was no other than Sugawara Koushi. His silvery hair flying against the wind; those eyes, glistening even though barely any light could touch them. The same eyes that stared right into yours. An all too familiar sense of time slowly down. Caving you. But this time, you felt happy.. content..
You hadn't noticed tears running down your face until Kiyoko placed a hand on your shoulder, causing you to jump. "L/N? Why are you crying? Are you in pain?" Kiyoko looked concerned. You hesitantly peeled your eyes away from suga, glancing between Kiyoko and the team. "I-I'm ok- I'm.. I'm happy.." you couldn't help but smile as you covered your mouth. Sobs filled with laughter broke past the lump in your throat.
The team approached the two of you, around 2 feet away. However the third years came running to you, all worried. Did they know you?? You were their age. "L/N! What's wrong!?" Daichi worriedly asked.
You hastily wiped your tears away with the heel of your palms. You lowered your head embarassingly as you sniffled yourself back to normal. "I'm ok! I'm just a bit overwhelmed." You awkwardly laughed pulling at the sleeves of your unbuttoned blazer. You lifted your head to meet their stunning faces. It was them. They were talking to you.
"How are you feeling?" Asahi timid, scratching at his cheek. "Better now that you guys are here." You smiled so brightly, your cheeks and eyes stained pink. The boys couldn't help but feel a bit flustered. "A-Are you hungry? I can get you something from the shop?" Daichi offered, a bit more composed. You shook your hands in refusal. "No, no it's fine! Don't worry about me." Although you refused, you couldn't help but notice how hungry you really were.
"We insist. We heard what happened this morning. It's the least we can do." Suga smiled. You felt butterflies swarm you. "A-Alright. I'd like that." You couldn't help but keeps your eyes on him. It was him. Actually him.. talking to you.. acknowledging you.
