As the final bell rang signalling the beginning of Winter Break, Hawkins High went into a frenzy. Students were crashing out of their classrooms, echoes of their teachers' voices ringing through the hallways. Freshmen were pushed out of the way as a stampede of students ran towards the front doors. Even Nancy Wheeler seemed to be in a rush to escape. It was chaos.

Luckily for the party, they all shared a double period of biology on Friday afternoons. So, Dustin, Mike, Lucas and Max, sat in their classroom, waiting for the chaos to die down. They were not going to join their fellow freshmen in their struggle against the crowd. Max was sure that she even saw little Thomas Halter unconscious on the floor as the other students stepped over him in their rush. High school truely was a place like no other.

"Jesus!" Lucas grimaced as he looked out the door.

"Mike, when are you leaving again?" Dustin asked.

"Tomorrow morning, 4am." He replied.

Max shuddered. "Oh my God. Have fun getting up that early."

"He doesn't care. He just wants to go make out with El." Dustin smirked until Mike hit him on the arm.

"If you must know, Nancy was the one who wanted to leave that early. Besides, aren't you leaving at some ungodly hour tonight, Dustin?" Mike asked.

"Yeah. It was the only flight Mom could get. Don't ask me why she decided it was a good idea to spend Christmas in Florida, because I have no idea."

"What about you two?" Mike looked to Lucas and Max.

With Mike and Nancy going to see the Byers, and Dustin going to Florida, it only left the two of them. However, Lucas wemt to snow with his family every Christmas, so it would've been Max home alone (especially seeing as her Mom and Neil decided to go on their own holiday without her).

As soon as Lucas and the Sinclairs found out she'd be spending Christmas alone, they immediately invited her to come with them. Max was practically part of the family anyway. To say that Lucas and Max were excited, would be an extreme understatement.

"We leave in two days and will be back the night before school starts." Lucas said.

"I can't believe you two are now going on holidays together." Dustin stated. "You may as well be married."

Lucas rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, Dustin. We get it. Anyways, it looks like the hallways have cleared out."

The party grabbed their things, getting ready to leave. Max stopped, realising that they wouldn't see each other for about two weeks. It doesn't seem like much, but after you spend every day with people, it feels like way longer. Dustin and Mike are annoying as hell, don't get her wrong, but she'd miss them.

When the boys were heading towards the door, Mike turned around, realising Max hadn't moved. "You good, Mayfield?"

Dustin and Lucas also turned to look at her, all three of them showing some concern. She smiled. "Yeah. I'm good. See you soon, I guess."

"Well I'll be damned, Max. You're actually going to miss us." Dustin smirked.

"I am not!" Max looked to the floor. "Ok, fine. I guess I will."

Mike smiled. "Don't go soft on us, Mayfield. You're actually making me feel things."

Before she knew it, the boys had pulled her into a group hug. Yes, it was insanely cheesy, but she didn't really care. The four of them had grown quite close after El and Will left. Starcourt had taken a huge toll on everybody involved and they only had each other to talk to. The boys had grown protective over Max, but they knew that she'd be able to beat anybody up, way better than they could. She was their Zoomer.
