Whilst Max and Lucas weren't necessarily arguing, there was still tension between them since that night when they did the dishes.
Max still avoided the conversation about revealing her pregnancy and Lucas did his best not to bring it up. But the unspoken conversation was leaving a gap of silence in their relationship that was becoming consuming.
But in other news, Lucas' football team had made it to the state finals. This meant that the team would go away on a week-long training camp to prepare for the big game.
"I don't have to go. If you want me to stay, say the words and I'll happily do so." Lucas told her the night before the team was due to leave.
"Lucas, it's okay. You love football and I'm so proud of all the effort you've put into this season despite everything. Besides, I'll be fine. I promise."
"You sure?" He asked.
Max laughed at his hesitation. "I'm sure."

Yet, as she stood out the front of their house the next morning, Max doubted what she had told him. She knew she would be okay, she was just a little sad to see him going. It's just that they hadn't been apart since she found out she was pregnant. He was always there for her throughout every stage so far, she liked knowing he was right there if she needed somebody to turn to.
The entire party had come to say goodbye, and after Lucas had bid each of them farewell, he pulled Max into a big hug where Max held him just as tight.
"You look after yourself, okay? Don't let those other boys tackle you too much." Max whispered, trying her best to hide the unsteadiness within her voice.
"I'll be careful, I promise. I'm going to miss you. Both of you. Yourself and our little girl." Lucas said.
Max squeezed him tighter. "Stop, you're going to make me cry."
"I love you MadMax."
"I love you too, Stalker."
They finally released from their hug, Lucas pulling Max into a deep kiss. He then bent down and pressed a kiss to her belly, before getting into the car with his dad.
El held Max's hand as they waved goodbye, Max doing her best to keep smiling as he drove off.
Lucas wished that she would've come to the school to see him off, but he respected her wish to keep her pregnancy a secret for a bit longer. God, he missed her already.

As Max laid in bed that night, she felt as if there was way too much empty space next to her. She found herself cradling her bump. It helped her remember that she wasn't alone.
"Hey baby." She whispered. "It's just you and me tonight. I miss your daddy, but I'm so grateful you're with me. I love you so much already. More than you'll ever know. You're so blessed. Your daddy has the biggest heart, and he gives the best hugs. I hope you get his kindness, intelligence, determination and loyalty."
Max felt herself tearing up. "I didn't want to tell your daddy this, but I'm scared baby. I'm scared to tell the world about you because some people won't thing I'm cut out to be a mom, and what if they're right? I want so badly to give you everything I didn't have."
Max finally allowed herself to break down. She was overwhelmed with everything around her. The nausea, emotional fatigue, the fact that she was creating an entire human being.
"Maxie?" A small voice came from the doorway.
Max rolled over to see Erica. Max wiped her eyes. "Sorry, did I wake you up?" She managed to choke out.
