Katara and Aang were absolutely heartbroken after Sokka was taken from them, they set out to the Northern Water Tribe to try and find someone who could help teach Aang water bending, it was also so they could ask around to try and find Sokka, hoping that the Northern Tribe was still untouched by the Fire Nation.
Along the way Katara and Aang were learning the basics of water bending, seeing that the young girl herself barely knew anything about it, the lack of her mother around due to the fire nation left her to learn on her own.
Normally they flew in Appa, but they wanted him to get some rest, and they wanted to practiced their bending out on the water. For now they were still on their small boat that they had rented from the town that was a couple miles away, they were so generous and even offered them a place to stay, they took it, but would go out near the ocean to hunt for food, and practice their bending.
They each taking turns pushing and pulling the water to make small waves with their bending, every now and then Katara would spice it up by trying to pull some water towards herself, wanting to try and make a whip, but failed. She grumbled angrily and gripped her hair, "Stupid water! I can't do this!" She plopped down onto the bench in the boat, pulling her light blue, almost purple gloves, on, followed by pulling her hood up.
Aang laughed at Katara's frustration a little, yes he did feel bad because he was already a little better than her at water bending, but he couldn't help it, it was quite literally in his nature to know how to do the basics. "Come on Katara, you can't just give up" he rested his hands on his hips, "Yes I can! And I will.." the 14 year old crossed her arms over her chest, slouching in anger and slight embarrassment. "Come on..how are we gonna find Sokka if you give up?" Katara straightened her back and pulled her hood down, looking at Aang, she then sighed a little and relaxed a bit. "Aang...even when we do get to the Northern Tribe, it's going to take a while to find Sokka, we'd probably have to go to the Fire Nation...he was taken by them after all.."
Aang frowned and stepped closer to Katara, sitting down next to her while gently rubbing her back "We'll find him, I know we will" he smiled his big goofy smile, this caused the 14 year old to giggle a little while gently pushing the twelve year old's face away "What are we gonna do when we find Sokka?" He could see the light leaving Katara's eyes due to sadness and anger "...I'll kill whoever took my mother and brother..." The 12 year old air nomad chuckled nervously while scooting away from her.
"I think it's time that we head back to the shore...Appa is probably hungry Katara" Aang smiled "And you should really take your coat off, it's not cold here, "..it's not my coat." The 14 year old grumbled a little. It was true, it wasn't her coat, it one of her brothers, specifically one that he outgrew a year or two ago. "Katara...it's been almost two years..you need to take it off and wash it" the brunette shook her head "I'll take it off when we find Sokka" the 12 year old sighed and rubbed his forehead "You're gonna end up over heating" he shrugged a little and held his hands out over the boat, gently pushing his hands forward to manipulate the water into shoving the boat back to shore.
