I searched for her after class, but she didn't come out with the rest of them.  My heart dropped.  Did Brenda get her sent to the office  My jaw clenched as I heard her voice.  "She's so weird and thinks she's so smart, I'll show her..."

I approached, and Brenda's minion looked at me with wide eyes.  "What happened to that girl?"

She frowned.  "The little freak?  Who knows, but since you're here..."

I stepped out of her reach, disgusted.  "What's her name?"

She paused for a moment.  "Why?"

I took a slow breath as I heard the venom in her voice.  "I should at least welcome the new girl since I'm the future Alpha and all."

My tactic worked as she lightened up, hopefully keeping the girl out of her clutches.  "We don't know, she was never introduced, and the teacher never called on her."

I nodded slowly.  "I see, thanks."  I left quickly, trying to form a plan to catch her.  Everything I tried failed, when I would find her class she wasn't with other students when they filed out.  This girl was elusive, her scent so light that it was masked by the people around her and didn't linger long.  It was driving me insane until there was a ruckus in the hallway.  I went towards it, praying Brenda wasn't trying to hurt her again.

I would snap her neck if she did, but instead, there was a boy. He too was younger than the rest of us.  I noted he had the same raven black hair and shocking blue eyes of the girl.  Some of my classmates were taunting him and throwing his phone back and forth. Are they related... if so then...

I went to help him, but just as quick as the thought crossed my mind, she was there snatching his phone from the air and pulling him away.  She had replaced her hood, clearly not wanting to attract any more attention to herself.

Her hand moved in a flurry as he tried to speak, and people tried to get their attention.  Is she... mute?  It didn't matter. I wanted answers, so, like a moth to a flame, I followed.

As the class filed out, I took the window out and took stock of what was around. I found a suitable way back in and headed for the next class, I did the same as the first and continued that way until lunch, thankful that Brenda girl didn't pop up. I stood in the doorway, looking for Xavier, but found nothing. Strange...

I went back into the hallway, heard a crowd, and followed the sound. "Give it back!" I sighed, recognizing the voice and slipping through the bodies that towered over me. Xavier was in the middle, his phone being tossed back and forth between a bunch of boys. I looked around and saw the Brenda girl and inwardly groaned.

I waited for my chance and grabbed the device out of the air, and took my brother's arm after pulling my hood back over my head. "Vi-"

I glared at him. "Shut up and walk."

He dropped his head. "Hey! What do you think you're doing?"

"Just keep walking."

When we made it to the roof, I closed the door and looked around. Xavier looked at me distressed. "They just..."

I pat his arm and went to sit on the edge. "Have nothing better to do than pick on the new, little kid. I know, this chick has been trying all day."

He sat beside me, and I took off my hoodie and leaned back on it on my elbows. "Really? How have you been avoiding that? You're tiny."

I side-eyed him. "Ignoring her..."

"So... she does speak."

I dropped my head and looked over at the middle school, wanting to go back to my quiet, simple life. My brother looked at me in dismay.  "Uh..."
