It had been years since Jaime last stepped foot in Winterfell's Great Hall, surrounded by thousands of Northmen and the members of House Stark, including the honorable Ned Stark. Most of the many faces he met all that time ago were gone, dead and buried or left behind on some wasteland of a burial. In truth, it mattered little to him. The dead were now nothing more than fading memories of a past he missed and longed to forget.

He had wondered to himself, on his ride to Winterfell, as to why he was wanting to fulfill his oath in helping The North, filled with enemies to the crown and to Cersei. Perhaps it was because of his duty as a Kingsguard, for he once swore an oath that he broke under his service to the Targaryen King, Aerys II. To break another oath would surely make him Oathbreaker, and he would no longer be looked down upon by those he swore his allegiance to, even The North.

When Jaime had arrived, he was swiftly taken away by Northmen and dragged to the Great Hall. There, he was greeted by familiar faces, recent and long since. He easily recognized Jon Snow and his brother, along with the Dragon Queen, Daenerys, and her sister, Vaerya. But there was another face he had not seen in many years. Sansa.

The girl had grown fast in a life that was never fair to her, even when she was younger and innocent. He recounted her direwolf, Lady, being executed by her father when another attacked Joffrey, and having been promised to marry his nephew for a life of royalty and fame. But such a life never came to be. Joffrey had died a little while later, and neither royalty nor fame came to life.

There was an uneasy silence amongst the spectators, glancing and glaring at the Golden Lion as he stood in front of the Lady, the Bastard, his brother and the two Targaryen women. He never dared to break it, for he knew it was not him to do so. Not after everything that had happened.

"When I was a child," the Dragon Queen spoke, her voice stern and strict, "my brother would tell me a bedtime story, about the man who murdered our father. Who stabbed him in the back and cut his throat, who sat down on the Iron Throne and watched as his blood poured onto the floor. He told me and my sister other stories as well, about all the things we would do to that man once we took back the Seven Kingdoms and had him in our grasp."

Jaime swallowed nervously. Of course, the eldest daughter of the Mad King would bring up such a topic. No would ever forget what Jaime Lannister had done to help and forsake the realm.

Then Vaerya leaned forward, though her posture and tone were opposite of Daenerys. "Your sister pledged to send her army North." She pointed out.

   "Yes, she did." Jaime replied.

"I do not see an army; I see one man with one hand. It appears your sister lied to us."

Cersei was one Jaime knew best to lie and manipulate the minds of others to get her own way. Surely, she had done it to ensure the survival of House Lannister, but at the cost of brave men and women sacrificing their lives to protect a broken reality. She was surely a snake.

"She lied to me as well." He continued. "She never had any intention of her sending her army north. She has Euron Greyjoy's fleet and twenty-thousand fresh troops. The Golden Company from Essos, bought and paid for. Even if we defeat the dead, she'll have more than enough to destroy the rest of us."

   "We?" Daenerys questioned.

Jaime gave a light nod. "I promised to fight for the living, I intend to keep that promise, unlike Cersei."

But the words from the man did not ease Daenerys' glare. Standing in front of her was the man who had killed her father and forced her, her sister, and Viserys to leave an exiled life in Essos. She knew her father was a vile, dangerous and horrible monster of a man who had led their ancient and noble House to near-ruin. Yet he was her father in general, and even a monster had some ounce of reason to become such a thing.
