The sudden ringing of the cellphone brought back her attention to reality. She parked her car on the side as the caller seemed to lack patience.

She grabbed the cellphone from the dashboard, dreading of what would follow next. Nevertheless, she slid it to the right of the green and clasped it near her ear.

"Where are you at this time?" Priya hissed hearing the person on the other side leaving no mercy for her to answer back.

"Isn't it late than usual for you?" Another question was tossed at her before she could think of a reply to the first.

"Neha, slow down first. I'm on my way back to home", Priya explained the most she could.

"Come fast. I'm waiting at your door", Neha told her and cut the call quickly which made Priya jump in her skin.

She was way beyond frightened now because of this sudden visit of Neha. But she saw it coming anyway.

She half cursed herself for leaving her car in the parking lot and Ram's driver who took a longer route than usual which made her late. And now she had to be ready with an explanation to give to Neha.

Racing the car through the traffic, she had a mental conversation with herself on how to reveal it all to Neha. She knew she can't keep it away from her best friend.

---------------

Her eyes met the glaring eyes of Neha as she entered her flat with Neha who was clearly pissed.

"Where were you yesterday?" Neha retorted as Priya moved forward for a hug but stopped midway for an excuse to give.

"I slept early yesterday", Priya instantly sneaked her eyeballs to the floor.

"And that's why you didn't pick up my call yesterday nor did care to respond to my text today, right?" Neha quipped in return.

"Something has happened and I know that, tell me." She added forcing Priya to crawl her way back to Neha and straight into her arms.

How her best friend understood everything without she even telling her anything in the first place, it stunned her.

"Yes...." Priya feebly replied as she adjusted back her composure.

"People come and go in your life like a passing wind. They only stop by to drop a story of their hard learnt lessons inside you and that drags you a little by little into the scruples of darkness", Neha earnestly let out her heart to Priya with a hope.

Priya kept on looking at her like a lost soul, the one only her best friend knew how to rebuild with the right kind of words.

"I know how you care for everyone in your life. But every dark leaves its footprints behind. Just remember, don't let go only because it'll make things better, let go when it makes you indifferent." Her voice served the defying convention to Priya's soul.

Priya gave an assuring smile to Neha who was happy to see the smile returning back on her face and this time it was genuine.

"How did you get to know that something was wrong?" Priya questioned her though she knew the answer already.

"It was the moment you opened the door for me and those eyes that were hesitant to look straight conveyed everything ", she simply asserted knowing well how her friend had skills to mask everything behind her smile.

"By the way how come you are here, Vikram isn't home yet?" Priya doubted but instead incited a rapid frenzy of energy in Neha as she lunged towards the door erratically.
