"a dance?" ashton scoffed, looking at a little 8x10 poster, which read the words "WINTER FORMAL". "thats dumb."
"oh i never liked those." meredith lied. she was a big disney princess fan in her childhood, so she loved the idea of nice dresses and slow dancing to music no one would listen to on any other day. but she obviously was not going to admit this to him. "i just wish i had a date so i could finally tell all those mean girls that boys do like me."
ashton rolled his eyes, continuing down the hall. "i dont see why you care about what they think of you. youre smart, find some sort of chemical reaction that can burn off their eyelashes."
"that might be qualified as assault." she chuckled. "i'll see you at lunch." then they parted ways.
"meredith." she heard someone say from behind her.
"luke?" she asked. "what could you possibly want?"
luke glared at her as she rolled her eyes. "i just have to talk to you during lunch." he smiled at her a little.
meredith:
yo ashton luke just talked to me and wasnt an asshole are u amazed bc i am

meredith went through her first three periods distracted. she definitely wanted to go to this stupid winter dance, but she kind of wanted to go with ashton. even if she could pluck up the courage and ask him he wouldnt want to go anyway. he said he hated these things.
even though she knew that her and ashton wouldnt be getting together it would be nice to spend one dance with her best friend. and she didn't know what the hell luke wanted, but she was about to find out since the bell rang for lunch.
while meredith was walking out of engineering, ashton jogged to keep up. "sup, mer." he slung an arm around her shoulders, and ruffled her hair.
"stooop." she giggled.
"um, meredith?" she heard luke say from behind her.
"oh, hey luke." she said blankly. ashton gave him a cold glare as he shifted around a little.
"i just wanted to tell you im sorry for what happened at that dinner at your house with my parents." he said sheepishly.
meredith cracked a half smile. "it's fine."
as her and ashton started walking away, ashton looked behind them and mouthed 'it's not fine.' to luke.
"wanna go off campus for lunch?" ashton asked, smirking a little. "by that i mean ditch."
meredith rolled her eyes. "all i really want to do is wait around for a guy dumb enough to ask me to this dumb dance so i can rub it in that bitch gina's face."
ashton groaned. "meredithhh." he pouted.
"no. i will live in a fantasy in which boys think im quote unquote 'perfect'," she smirked at ashton here. "and then they'll ask me to the dance."
he groaned again. "meredith just ditch with me now and then this friday instead of the dance we can watch movies in a blanket fort."
"we have no diversity in what we do to have fun."
"neither do married couples, and they're happy." he laughed.
meredith glared at him. "im staying, alright? let me live my dream until no one asks me and then we can watch movies in a blanket fort."
"fine, ill stay until the end of the day." he sighed dramatically.
"boohoo, poor you."

meredith was walking out of algebra at the end of the day, when popular boy calum hood walked up to her, probably for homework answers.
"hey meredith?" he asked.
"hi." she answered, stopping to talk to him.
"i was um, wondering if you wanted to go to the dance with me." he mumbled, smiling.
