Please, wake up...

Neigh-!

Your eyes suddenly jolted awake and you immediately sat up on your bed, struggling for air as you did so. Not even noticing how hard you were clutching your clothed chest at the given moment, your face written with confusion from the immediately erased dream. Hardly even knowing what it was about. Panting breaths like an animal dying from thirst that you had also woken up from a loud inhumane screech right outside the house.

The rain from outside pitter-patters on the house roof and you took your time to regain your breathing.

"What sort... sort of scream... was that?" You asked pretty much to yourself, obviously relieved from not receiving a response or you're hallucinating as you're already alone in your bedroom.

You couldn't help but think, and think. Now your curiosity has gotten the better of you and you wanted to investigate what was happening outside. Especially the horrific screech that shook you awake. You stood up from your bed and grabbed your phone from the bedside, unconsciously holding an iron grip on it.

You exited outside your room carefully to not make any noise and quietly tiptoed down the stairs not before passing by the twin's room. Instantly relaxing when they were deep asleep. You tiptoed your way down the stairs and stopped right before the front door.

Is mom home? Where is she? Why is it so quiet? Are there robbers? It seems so. Though, I am getting a tad bit curious.

This is why they say curiosity kills the cat. By how one is curious to know the answer unaware of the danger, the immediate the kill is. Right then and there. However that philosophy somehow doesn't work on you. Gathering the courage, you took a deep inhale when an idea struck of bringing a weapon with you. So you grabbed the nearest object, which was an umbrella and held it tightly.

Your cold hand turned the knob slowly and peeked outside the rainy lawn, you even forgot that it was even raining. No matter. You seek shelter from the umbrella, the supposed weapon, and step outside with the wind softly blowing on your face.

"What...?"

What greeted you outside the small gate was daunting. Your eyes widened seeing the dim-lighted lights that barely lit the street to see anything. Staring too much at the void might tempt them to eat you alive. You shook your head, you're thinking too much.

"Meow."

Startled, you hastily turned to the source of the sound and saw a cat hidden by a makeshift shelter of a box near the garbage. Your fastened heartbeat slowed down, thinking of a reason that this cat could be the reason for the noise that woke you up. Your feet trudged to the cat and crouched, looking at it fondly but didn't dare to even touch since it looked like it'll scratch you the minute you lift a finger.

Soon enough, your eyes darted to the side as the rain flushed on your umbrella. You stood up, surprising the feline. Your eyes blown wide to saucers because why? Is your mind playing tricks on you? Or were you suddenly deprived of sleep? But you knew your eyes weren't deceiving you, because why is there an elegant carriage mysteriously appearing outside your house?

Baffled was written in your features as you stared at those beautiful and beady eyes that belonged to the mammals. But you shakily took out your phone and dialed your mother's number, yet after many rings, it would immediately go to her voicemail. Giving you no option whatsoever.
