** Venice Claire's POV **

I woke up, sensing something that seemed unwanted. This gut feeling… something must be happening outside my radar.

Suddenly, a soft movement caught my attention. I looked to my side to see Xenon sleeping peacefully, with his arm draped around my waist. His warm breath fanning on my shoulder sent chills through my body. He looked at peace, but I knew that he'd been worried about me — and I'm mad at myself for not being able to tell him everything.

Thinking about it, I’ve been totally different since the moment I met him... Xenon. I’ve felt worried, mad, and many more emotions than what I had felt before. I thought I would never care about anyone or anything — besides my mom and my brother, whom I cherish. I thought I would be harder than stone.

But here I am, just a normal human being who’s at a loss.

I sighed, staring at his handsome face. Losing track of time, I just wanted this moment to last longer… this moment where I could watch him at peace, as if he had no worries.

I love this man... I love him more than my life... But he cherishes me more than his life — and that scares me.

I’m just nothing but... a monster. Yet, this precious guy is willing to sacrifice everything for me. He doesn’t truly know me. I am a monster. I might have become human, but still... a monster.

I have to face reality, and I need to face it as early as possible before it gets complicated.

I gently took his arm off me, making him move and loosen his hold, but before he could wrap his arm around me again, I swiftly grabbed the pillow nearby and used it in place of my presence.

Looking at him, he seemed to still be sleeping peacefully, not noticing my disappearance. He must have been so tired to sleep this soundly. I immediately looked at the bedside table to check the time — it was 3:30 a.m. I see, I’d only been asleep for an hour.

I walked toward it and took my phone that was placed there. I looked at it and saw 8 missed calls from Carlo.

My gut instincts hadn't gone weak, so I messaged Carlo, telling him to call me back. Then, I immediately went to the window, opened it, and smoothly jumped down to the ground.

Just then, my phone vibrated once. Knowing it was Carlo calling, I answered it.

"Princess!" he shouted, then stopped as he breathed, calming himself.

"What’s wrong?" I asked plainly while walking along the roadside, heading toward the dorm.

Seemed like I would be needing my things, which I left there.

"Good thing you answered! I’ve been calling you since yesterday! Oh, anyway, I know you’re busy — but what have you done now?" he asked as if something big had gone wrong.

But I don’t care, as long as the people I protect are safe. I don’t care about the rest.

"Tch. Talk straight to the point," I stated plainly.

"Woah! Really? No exceptions? I’m your brother, Venice, who’s exaggerating here, worried for you! And you talk like you don’t even care!?" He overreacted. Then suddenly, he sighed, composing himself as if he just finished acting. "Oh, by the way — what I’m trying to say is, Dad came home yesterday and he seemed to have been triggered. I wonder why, but he told me to tell you — again — that he wants to meet you today. As in, today. And oh, you know where to go."

Triggered? That devil? That’s a good thing, though. I thought he would never be triggered. He deserves that — and more than that. On the other hand, if Dad was triggered, then something worse must have truly happened.

I wonder what he discovered. And that, I shouldn’t ignore.

"Any idea about it?" I asked plainly, thinking of the possibilities.

"I’m trying to look for it, Princess. But the way Dad was bothered… I knew this was not something we should ignore. It could only mean life or death. Be careful, Princess." Carlo was rarely serious in any circumstance, but the way he spoke — I knew this would mean a rough road ahead.

One thing I know for sure — it was about me, or a bigger threat to the throne. Nevertheless, it is related to me.

And I must act, before the devils do.

When I reached the dorm, I quietly unlocked the door and entered, but my attention was caught when I didn’t sense Zoey’s presence.

So before I headed to my closet, I went to my bed — which she was using for the meantime — and touched the quilt. The combination of warm and cold temperature told me she had been gone for about an hour.

I sighed as I stood straight and headed directly to the closet to do what I was about to do... get my personal belongings.

I took the bag from my hidden board box, containing my suits and necessary weapons, all fitted into my black backpack.

I immediately headed back toward the door, hearing the calm breathing of Cassy and Drena — indicating that they were sleeping peacefully.

As I locked the door of the dorm, I suddenly sensed her aura.

"What makes the Heiress of the Dark World out here in this dark and cold morning, hm?" Zoey stated with amusement in her voice.

I looked at her blankly. "Darkness is where I am, Zoey. You should rather ask yourself."

My words caught her off guard as she shifted her position and played with her hair.

"Well, I just find the temperature kinda my taste, so I enjoyed some fresh air and," she looked at me with a mischievous smile, "besides, I had some fun."

After saying those words, I looked deeply into her eyes, wearing no emotions. "I’ll let you play around, but know your limit — or face death in my hands."

The coldness in my voice might have scared her as a sudden fear crept into her eyes, but she immediately hid it as they shined brightly. She smiled and took a step closer to me.

"That would be my proudest moment, dearest cousin. I will only accept my death if it comes from your... own hands."

After she said those words, she headed toward the dorm, but before unlocking the door, she looked back and said,

"The devils seemed enraged, don’t let them bite you." She smirked and walked inside.

I took a deep breath and looked up at the sky. She fears death, but not from me.

All people fear death from me,
However, she’s an exception... I sighed, she will be hardcore. One wrong move from her, and she'll get what she wanted.

'Enraged', I smirked. Oh, I truly did trigger them, I see.
