Hodge knew would take at least a week to get to the borders of the forest of foreboding, they had only been travelling two days and he was beginning to wonder how he would endure the arrogant Prince Constantine that long. Even if they didn't get off on the wrong footing, Hodge knew he wouldn't be able to stand the Prince on sight.

At least tonight they should reach the inn known as The Tired Mule. Hodge had stayed there a few times, it was run down but it was warm and friendly, and he was looking forward to having a proper bed.

"We have been walking for hours, can't we rest," Constantine moaned.

"We will rest when we reach the inn," Hodge half growled. The Prince's voice had become like nails being dragged down a black board, and was glad that he could now see the smoke coming from the inns chimney.

"Is that hovel where we are meant to be staying? I refuse," Constantine sneered looking at the small building ramshackle with distaste.

"Well you can sleep outside on your own," Ragamuffin piped up shaking his head, nodding at the dirty dwarves that sat outside drinking ale, in no doubt enjoying their drinks after a day working in the mines.

"Now that faerie is befriending such lowly creatures," The Prince said load enough for the party of dwarves to hear while looking down his nose at them. Ragamuffin who had sat down to chat rolled his eyes, Ragamuffin had a knack of making friends with anyone but now he felt the Prince was making him look like some stuck up noble too, and he didn't like it.

"Who's the stuck up git? Look down on us and he will have a meeting with my axe," A dwarf growled spitting at the feet of Constantine. The dwarf like all dwarves was short, but he was stocky with large muscles from his hard work down the mines. The dwarf who Ragamuffin found out name was Hobbs looked like a tough being and even though his height only reached the Prince's stomach, Ragamuffin knew the strength of the dwarves and Hobbs could probably punch a hole in the arrogant Prince's stomach without much effort.

"You know humans have simple minds, don't mind him," Ragamuffin smiled at the dwarves, and his smile as always was disarming.

"Ka what a nice faerie boy and an elf doing travelling with human scum?" Hobbs asked his dark eyes almost obscured by his hair and bearded. Really Ragamuffin could only see his eyes and a rather large nose poking out from his giant black beard.

"We are on a quest but sadly we have to endure humans to get us there," Hodge said also sitting down with the dwarves.

"A quest, ka sounds exciting, I feel sorry for you having to put up with him though,"

"Now wait a minute you filth, how dare you talk about me like that?" Constantine sneered.

"Ka I say what see," Hobbs said reaching for his axe as Lloyd who had been quiet dragged the Prince into the inn. Hodge sighed watching them before looking back at dwarves.

"Just between us I think he might turn up with a dozen elfin arrows in his back before we make our return journey,"
