nina, ej and her parents made their way to the airport to drop nina off for her flight. once they got there, they all went inside and gave their final goodbyes.

"have fun in salt lake, honey. don't get in trouble or your mom and i will fly out there ourselves to pick you up," mama c said to her, with a stern voice.

"you know i would never mama c. thank you for letting me go, i'm gonna miss you guys so much," she started to tear up and hugged mama c.

"stay safe, okay? call all the time, and if anything goes wrong then please come home," mama d reasoned.

"i will! i love you, thank you again!" she hugged mama d and whispered in her ear, "thank you mama, i know mama c would never let me go if it wasn't for you. i owe you big time."

she let go of her moms grip and the two moms stepped back so she could have some final words with her boyfriend.

"well, i guess this is it," ej said.

"why are you making this sound like a break up?" she sniffled, "ahh, and why am i crying, i'm literally just leaving for a year and i'm coming back right after."

ej let out a light chuckle before hugging the small, brunette girl. "i'll miss you neens, if you need anything, and i mean anything, don't be afraid to call."

"of course elijah, i'm going to be calling you everyday, don't worry," she said, pulling away.

"i know, i know, and i'm going to be keeping tabs on you from ash, so you better not be lying to me."

"wow, i guess there's no trust between us," she feigned offence, then chuckled. "i'll miss you too ej. i'll see you in a year! i love you, and please watch over my moms, especially mama c. you know she doesn't exactly trust me going to utah."

"i love you too, neens, and don't worry, i've got it all under control," he winked. the two teens hugged again before ej pulled away to stand with nina's moms.

"well, i guess i better go, bye, i love you guys!" nina wiped her eyes and turned to go check in for her flight.

"bye nina! stay safe, we love you!" mama c yelled.

"and don't forget to call!" mama d added.

"everyday!" nina turned around to say, before she continued walking towards the check- in.

"everyday," mama d mumbled, wiping her tears at the sight of her only child walking away live her life somewhere else.

nina woke up when she felt turbulence on the flight. she opened her eyes and looked out the window to see that they have finally landed.

a rush of excitement grew inside her as she saw the airport through the airplane window. she waited until it was her turn to get off the flight and made her way to the baggage claim area.

as she was waiting for her suitcase to come through the conveyor belt, she checked her phone and saw a text from an unknown number. she read the message and saw it was from ashlyn, so she quickly changed the contact name and picture, and texted her back.

after getting her luggage, she made her way to the front of the airport to meet ashlyn. she looked through the crowd up people holding up signs with peoples names and saw a curly, red-headed teenager holding up a piece up paper with nina salazar- roberts written on it.

nina approached the girl with a wide smile across her face and immediately gave her a hug.

"ahh i can't believe i'm finally meeting you," the brunette said.

"me too! you're so pretty!" the red head complimented.

"me? look at you."

"stop," ashlyn laughed. "so, you're the girl my cousin is set to marry."

"that's me! but please don't say it like that. that makes it sound like we're in medieval times," nina laughed.

"true. okay, well we better get going, my parents are dying to meet you."

nina just nodded and the two teenagers made their way into ashlyn's car and to ashlyn's house. during the car ride nina immediately texted her moms and ej to let them know that she had landed safely and is now on the way to the red heads house.

also on the car ride, the two teenagers got to know each other and bonded over their love of disney movies and music. the two became instant friends, and knowing ashlyn was by her side, nina was no long nervous for what her year in salt lake city holds.
