Hi, you may wonder who I am, so let me introduce myself like any other K-pop Idol would.
Hello, my name is Simreen Mahjabeen. I am a 17 year old girl from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I love imagining, fantasizing and listening to music. The fantasies I have are very wierd and almost novel-like. So, I also write down all of my imaginations in form of stories. They are basically fanfictions and inspired from others' works.
Just like that, I had written a series story called "The Big Twist." It is basically inspired from my favourite vampire book turned drama series called "The Vampire Diaries", though it also includes pieces from "The Originals" and "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones". Its' first 2 parts are basically like any basic FBI workplace related dramatic love story drama with a little sci-fi twist of its own, but from season 3 is where all of the supernatural madness begins. It'll make any supernatural story loving person fall in love with it.
I just wrote it as my coping mechanism to keep those thoughts alive. But then one day, one of my cousins found the dairy that I noted all of it down on.
He was shocked at my writing and creative mind and told me to publish it. But it was just something that I did out of my own imaginations. I never saw it as a publishable piece, it's just a fantasy I had as a fan. But then he submitted my story to American story critics without informing me.
As I was busy with my 10th standard graduation, my brother once took me to a place without any prior notice. That is when I met James Wan.
Yes, you read it right. I met the James Wan, executive director of Lionsgate Productions and the director of the whole "The Conjuring" series ever since its' inception. He came to Dhaka himself to meet me. I was totally shocked. But what he asked me after a while of conversations about my life, shocked me even more.
"Would you like to join me with CBS Televisions for making your story a reality?"
I wanted to say "yes", I wanted to do it almost immediately. But then something got me to stop.
It was my parents. They are two very conservative people. They have middle class bank jobs and try to give us whatever we want. But there are also some boundaries they had established way before we could say no.
But being the kind of daughter I am, I knew that I could never keep them happy in any way. As all the way of happiness from me they find appeasing, is somehow the ones that I usually fail in excelling the most. And I knew that I would only be a burden on them if I keep listening to them 24/7, 365.
Then my cousin said,
"Well, you can sign the contract and I can be your legal guardian with a lawyer."
I hesitated at first, but after a day of thought and incidents, I realized that this may be the best thing for me. So I signed the contract. I had my elementary public exams left, so I waited for the exam to end. And after that, James Wan came in with FBI agents to escort me to Los Angeles.
My parents definitely obligated. But because I had signed the contract myself, they had no other way but to let me go. Instead, they just did another contract done with Lionsgate Productions. They had many absurd points and conditions in it, which basically would lead to me being back in Bangladesh.
But I was definitely even clever than that. Because I knew that none of these will ever happen to me at all. I am too cautious to let it be.
I also took part in this reality contest, where one civilian would be chosen out of all applicants to learn all trait and trade of acting from their favorite actor. And very weirdly, I got selected and I started to learn acting from Zac Efron.
Zac Efron is the actor that I liked ever since I was 5 or 6 years old. The first thing I saw of him was Disney's "High School Musical". He played the role of the male protagonist, Troy Bolzon. He was lean then. But now, he has a buff and hunk body with a toned chest and sculpted six-pack abs.
But I don't see him that way anymore, I just respect him as an actor. Then I started living in next door to Zac with a nice Christian family of 4. But later, I moved into Mellissa Benoist's Brooklyn penthouse apartment, right beside the one that she lives in. They are all very nice to me.
And then one day, as I was just surfing the Internet before my night time routine, I saw that Big Hit Entertainment released a job circular for BTS' new staff; including a new manager, chief of staff for outdoor and indoor events and SNS advisor for controlling their SNS activity perfectly.
I, at first got the thought,
"I don't think I'll get in. I am just a drop out high schooler working as a writer for a drama."
But then, my Spotify playlist started playing "Y si Fuera Ella" by Kim Jonghyun.
Soon, I thought,
"What's the harm in trying? I mean, I feel like I may have used up all my life- worth of luck in this American dream of a life I am leading. might as well have this for a funny tale to tell later. My, how many fans might call me a Sasaeng at this point for it."
So, I just threw a coin into the well, hoping and also not hoping, for something to happen.
And about 2 weeks later,
"Simreen, where the hell are you?"
I was now running into the kitchen to check on the beef curry I was making by my aunt's recipe. I then replied loudly,
"Doesn't the smell answer the question? By the way, why are you here, huh?"
Zac was now standing in front of the kitchen and replied,
"Did you forget already? You were supposed to get that email for your interview confirmation. What about That? And you're cooking curry?"
I now wiped my hands and said,
"It's still 11:27 AM on a Friday morning. There's still time to it. And why are you panicking like it's your dream job interview?"
He gave a huge exhale and said as he approached me to hold me by my shoulders,
"Because it seems to me that it may be your dream job. You have been studying on Korean history, language and rules and regulations for becoming a Korean citizen and also to pass the exam. I think I have never seen you this determined about anything since you finished learning acting from me."
I now scoffed and replied,
"Well, that's true. But I don't think I can get that job."
Zac was now the one scoffing at my response and then said,
"Really? I don't think that anyone in this world is more perfect for this job than you. I know that, and I believe that even the Big Hit staff will also see that."
I couldn't help but smile at his words. Because he was one of the very few people in my life who believed in me and my abilities to the fullest. He helped me learn the piano, play basketball, singing like a musical actor, though I failed miserably in it, and acting like a true professional. I can never thank him less for it. He stood for me even when my own biological parents didn't.
I then said,
"Beef curry and rice for brunch?"
He giggled at my question and said,
"Sure, can't say no to Simreen Mahjabeen's fabulous beef curry. Can you also pack me some before I leave? I want Vanessa to try this."
I laughed as I opened the rice cooker to check the rice,
"Sure. Never minded to pack some curry for my one of the very few of my girlfriends in the world. But let me get my phone first."
I ran upstairs, to my room to bring my phone. And a few seconds later, I walked into the drawing room as Zac said,
"Where were you so long? I'm literally dying here to eat the curry. But... what's wrong?"
I just somehow uttered out the unexpected sentence after constantly rewinding in my head for the last few moments.
"I've been selected for the interview as their manager, chief of staff and SNS adviser."
