chapter twelve

i woke up to the sound of my blaring alarm, but i didn't feel upset having to wake up today. today was my flight to texas for nick's surprise birthday party. it was 8:15 am and my flight left at noon, but i had to drop nala off and wanted to make sure i had time to spare. i pulled my comforter off my legs and walked into the bathroom to shower. i got out around 8:30 and blow dried my hair, putting on a simple grey sweatshirt with black shorts. i grabbed my suitcase and carry on and brought them out to the car. when i went back into the apartment i saw nala waiting by her crate and bag of food, treats, toys, etc.

"someone is eager to leave." i said, smiling and patting her head, "well, i guess that makes two of us." she purred back in response. i picked up her bag and crate and brought it out to the car as well. i walked back into the apartment one last time to get nala and check to make sure i had everything. after completing my final rounds of the apartment, i walked out into the hallway. holding nala in one arm and they key in the other, i locked the door for the next week. i put nala in her bed in the passenger side of my car and prepared for the thirty minute drive to ida and amanda's apartment. when i left it was around 9 am and i figured i would have enough time to get breakfast with them before i went to the airport since they live so close to it. i had to get gas about halfway through the trip so i arrived to their apartment at around 9:40 and was greeted by amanda at the door. she ran up to me and gave me a big hug.

"Y/N! oh my gosh i missed you so much." she said as we broke apart from the hug.

"i missed you too!" i replied as she helped me carry all the stuff they needed for nala. we walked down the corridor to their apartment at the end of the hall. amanda opened the door for me and i put nala down so that she could explore. i was looking at their apartment when i heard a voice behind me.

"oh my god y/n." i turned around to see ida standing there and i ran up to give her a hug like i did amanda. suddenly i heard the toilet flush.

"is someone else here? oh i'm sorry i didn't know you guys had compa-" my sentence was cut off when i saw another one of my best friends, stefanie, walk out of the bathroom.

"STEF?" i practically yelled. "what are you doing here?" she ran up to me and gave me a big squeeze.

"y/n i have missed you so much." she said to me. "lets go get something to eat. there is lots to discuss."

we went to a small cafe a block or so away from their apartment. i ordered a coffee and bagel sandwich for my breakfast. everyone else got a variety of waffles, pancakes or some other breakfast food. we talked a lot about what was going on in our lives. amanda and ida told me about how good business was in their bakery they opened up a few months ago. it is one of my favorite places to eat, and not only because they are my best friends. they make such good food. stef was on her way to visit her family in oregon and since it was on the way, she decided to stop here for a few days.

"yeah so i am on my way up and decided i missed you guys so much i had to say hey." she said to us as we were finishing up our meal. we all smiled at each other as ida pulled us all in for a selfie. i added it to my instagram story with a little heart next to it and screenshotted it so i would always have it.

"so y/n," i looked up from my phone, "whats going on in your life?" amanda asked. i took a deep breath,

"its a long story."

by the time i had finished telling them everything, it was around 11:15. they all were astounded by the contents of the past few weeks, occasionally laughing or gasping while i told them everything.
