"okay!" i yelled, "ready to go?"

we spent most of the day walking around downtown LA, seeing all the sights, doing all the touristy things, the usual. as the day started to drift into early evening, i called my favorite restaurant down the street from our apartment to make a reservation for 6:45. after i had finished the call and secured our table, we continued to walk down the sidewalk, browsing the windows as we went. george and clay wanted to go into one of the shops to get a california souvenir for nick, seeing as he's never been. val and i showed them one of our favorite small shops on the corner which sold better memorabilia than most other big shops around here. after a while of browsing and searching, we picked out a LA sweatshirt for him. after paying we began to walk out of the store as clay moved over to the door, holding it open for all of us. the sun was beginning to set as we stepped out of the cool building, the air conditioning getting locked in by the doors behind us. we walked a few blocks down to the beach to watch the rest of the sunset before our dinner reservation in a little bit.

"it looks beautiful, don't you think?" i said to george, smiling at the pinks and oranges mixed with the deep blue of the ocean horizon. he nodded, smiling as we walked down the path.

"y/n?" he whispered, "i am colorblind" he said as he let out a huge laugh and i felt my face warm in embarrassment.

"SORRY!" i said exasperatingly, "I AM SO SORRY." he just continued to laugh at my horror.

"it's still beautiful though," he said looking at the sky, "much different from england," he continued with a small chuckle looking down at me, "i mean on days when it's not drizzly or grey the sunsets are pretty nice, from what i can tell, but it's rare." he looked back out toward the ocean, taking a deep inhale as he gazed at the crashing waves. "i've loved american sunsets since texas, they remind me of good memories." he continued with a soft hum as the my face warmed at the memories of earlier this year.

"i'm glad," i said smiling at him. we sat there in comfortable silence for a few minutes, watching the sun retreat to the ocean as the waves crashed below. soon val and clay met up with us once again and we began to walk to the restaurant. after fifteen-ish minutes, we were sitting at a table reading through the menu. i ordered the chicken fettuccine alfredo with a small garden salad on the side. clay ordered the steak while both val and george ordered the house dumplings. the food came rather quickly since most of the rush wouldn't start for another half an hour or so.

"so," val said, looking at me and then looking at the boys, "we need to know what you think." i continued as they looked down to their food.

"there is a correct answer, just so you know." val said as the picked up a piece of their respected dinner off of the plates

"shall we?" clay asked, raising his fork in a 'toast'. george laughed and raised his as well.

"we shall." he said, clinking the bottom of his fork with clay's before they both took a bite. their expressions immediately changed into love as they chewed the food. i raised up my fist and bumped it against val's as we laughed at their reactions.

"it is..." clay began

"delicious, magnificent, wonderful." george continued.

"yup those all fit the description." clay concluded as he took another bite.

"and that is the correct answer." val said before getting into her own dinner.

as we waited for the bill to come after we had stuffed ourselves with dinner, i took a sip of my water, turning on my phone to check the time. 8:45. my eyes trailed down to the date that lit up just below the time and my eyes widened.
september 29th. i swallowed the water in my mouth and turned to face george.
