chapter sixteen

"so," nick said in between bites, "whats the plan for today?"

"you tell me. it is YOUR birthday week after all." said bella as she walked over to the sink to wash her plate. we all agreed.

"okay well i think it's supposed to be kinda rainy today until at least eight pm. so, any ideas?" nick said as he pulled out his phone to check the weather app.

"maybe we could go to a movie?" i suggested, remembering seeing a movie theatre on my way to the house. everyone agreed and i smiled.

"oh! after we can go to my favorite restaurant for dinner if you guys are up for it." nick said and we all loved the idea and thought it was the perfect way to spend the rainy day together. we all finished breakfast and george and i cleaned up the dishes up after while everyone went to get ready for the day.

"do you think that was a good enough sorry for not helping clean up last night?" i asked as i grabbed another plate and scrubbed it with soap.

"i think so. plus we are also cleaning up now." he said with a smile as i handed him a plate to dry. when i finished washing, i gave the few plates left to george so he could dry them and checked my phone. i clicked the instagram app and saw that i had multiple dms in the top right corner. i was confused as to why so i slid to show all of them. when i saw they were all dm replies, i remembered what i had posted last night.

..."smile!" i said to him as i took a picture of the two of us in the mirror. my arm wrapped around his waist while he held his toothbrush in his mouth, both of us drenched. i captioned it 'late night dances in the rain>>>>' and i posted it to my instagram story...

i saw that i had replies from stefanie, amanda, and ida all saying some variation of 'this is so cute.' i laughed as i replied to my friends as george walked over.

"what are you laughing at?" he said, hugging me from behind.

"just the reactions to this picture." i said as i showed him my instagram story from my phone. "people seem to like it." i clicked off the the instagram app and went into the photos app so i could show him the actual picture. he smiled as he reached his hand over my shoulder and texted the picture to himself. we stood there for a few more minutes as i replied to a few more people who slid up before i heard someone get out of the shower upstairs.

"i should probably go shower so we can leave." i said turning around to face him. i have him a small kiss on the cheek before leaving his arms and making my way upstairs. i walked into my room and saw bella and val in there. i told them they could use my room to get ready whenever they needed because it had the most space. i said hey to them as eleanor walked into the room, hair in a towel. val was drying her hair while bella was doing her makeup in the mirror. i took a quick shower and washed my hair since it felt weird from the rain last night. i got out while everyone was finishing getting ready and heading downstairs to the living room. i dried my hair and threw on a simple outfit before making my way downstairs to meet everyone else. they were discussing what movie we were gonna see when i got downstairs.

"oooh we could see get out." said nick as he scrolled through the movie theatre website. everyone agreed with him. i tried my best to keep it secret that i was terrified of horror movies on our way to the theatre as i sat shotgun with george driving and eleanor and nick in the back, clay, val, bella and tommy all in a second car behind us. we pulled up to the theatre around 2 pm and walked in. i took a deep breath as we walked through the door and into the lobby of the theatre. george turned his head to the side to look at me.

"is everything alright?" he asked as he squeezed my hand.

i snapped out of my thoughts and turned to look at him, smiling. "yeah everything is fine! just a little scared of horror movies." i chuckled nervously as i looked down at my feet. he swung our hands forward and back.

"don't worry y/n. it's not real. plus i will be right by your side the entire time, don't worry." he said as he brought our interlocked hands up to his mouth and kissed the back of mine. i nodded as our friends caught up to us and we bought the tickets to see the movie. we walked in the theatre and sat down in the seats in this order.

george, me, val, clay, tommy, bella, eleanor and then nick. i grabbed george's hand as the movie began to play. i shielded my face with his shoulder. holding onto his arm every time tighter a jump scare occurred, earning a small giggle from george every time. i smacked him on the arm once for every laugh he let out.
"you know when you said you were scared of horror films, i didn't think it was this intense." he whispered into my ear.

"shut up it's not my fault!" i whispered back as i turned my head to face him. he quietly chuckled in an attempt to not disturb the people sitting all around us. about halfway into the film, i let my body ease up a little bit as i looked around at my friends near me. bella and tommy were sharing a big bag of popcorn. while the other two pairs were sitting together, watching intently. i smiled before having it cut short my screams as someone jumped out from the doorway on the screen.

we walked out of the theatre once the movie had ended. although i would probably never watch that movie again, i felt a feeling of satisfaction by completing it and not having any second thoughts.

"okay, who's up for some dinner now?" asked nick as we walked into the parking lot, the rain slowly falling down on our bodies as we ran to the car. we hopped in and nick gave george the directions. the second car following close behind us as we made our way to nick's favorite restaurant. we had made a reservation earlier because there were so many of us and we got there just in time. the hostess brought us to our table and gave us menus. after the waitress brought out our drinks, eleanor held hers up in a joking manner.

"to nick," she said raising the glass up, "thank you for being one of the best people i have had the pleasure of meeting." they smiled at each other as nick's face lit up bright red and the rest of us giggled as his sudden blush.

"and, of course, to the rest of my best friends. i'm so glad to share this week with you. cheers!" she said as she lifted her glass. we all echoed by raising our glasses and clicking them all together before taking our own sips. soon the waitress came back with all our food and we began to eat.

we stayed at the restaurant for about three hours, waiting for the rain to stop and just talking. we ordered desert after we finished dinner to pass the time. when the rain finally stopped it was around 8:30pm. we got into our designated cars and made the trip home. everyone was feeling full of food so we all sat down in the living room and turned on the tv so we could digest it all. we watched an episode of friends before everyone was feeling much better and like they could actually move without exploding. clay looked out the window and then turned to face us.

"hey? who wants to go swimming?" he asked.
