CARTER POV

She was gone. I had searched everywhere. Her mobile was switched off.

I pulled my hair in frustration. That was when I noticed the piece of paper on the desk.

'Carter, he has the kids. 2 of them. Warehouse at the end of the town. Wait outside with the police.'

That was all she wrote.

I will come, Cayden. For you.

CAYDEN POV

It was an old and abandoned place. But it stood at the very end and was a very good hiding place.

''Raise your hands.'' The guard ordered me. He touched my socks, checking for weapons.

''Lay your hands on me, I will make you regret it.'' I warned as he told me to turn around. He nodded as soon as he had finished and pushed me towards the room. Whoa, it was pretty huge but my eyes went to the small figures being held.

''Cayden!!'' They shouted in delight as soon I stepped in, closer. I looked around. 10 goons, Michael – my so-called ex-boss and Silas himself. My eyes were glued to him. He was still the same, with a stupid smirk on his face and his eyes glinted in satisfaction.

''I see you are here, gorgeous.'' He rubbed his hands and leaned back on his chair.

'' 10 guards, but you still checked me for arms. Nice.'' I smirked.

''Oooh, still feisty.'' But I scowled when I saw the bruises on the kid's arms.

''You told you wouldn't hurt them, Silas.''

''They weren't afraid. I wanted them to be.''

Before I could answer him, Emilia shouted from across the room, ''We still are not afraid.''

Every head whipped towards her and I laughed, '' Those are my kids, you are talking about, Silas. Careful.''

I thought. The only thing common about Emilia and Antonio is that they were from Spain. I caught their eyes.

'' toma tu posición y patea alto (Take your position and kick high)'' I ordered them in Spanish. Before the men could react or even process it, the job was already done. If you know what I mean, kids are short. The idiots crouched, groaning in pain while Antonio pulled Emilia along with him and hugged my legs. I pushed them behind me.

''So, what did ....'' I was interrupted by a woman who walked over and took a seat on Silas's lap.

''Hello Darling. Surprising isn't it?'' The bitch who gave birth to me chuckled. Unfortunately.

''Pfft. You call that a surprise? I knew the minute you left me; you went to f*** him like the whore, you are.'' She screeched and lunged forward to me, but was pulled back.

When exactly did she turn into a bird?

Who cares? Yeah.

Suddenly the door opened and a man dashed in. I growled at him, ''What the hell, Carter?'' But he just stared at me and the men grabbed him. They forced him onto his knees and kicked him in his side.

''Stop! Let him go. You want me.'' I shouted to Silas, but he smirked.

''One trap, two rats. Lucky me!'' Michael chuckled. I took two long steps and punched him right on the nose. There was loud crack and he cried out in pain, falling to the ground. I kicked another man in the jaw, as he made a weak attempt to grab me and I elbowed him in the ribs. The other one was quick enough to punch my jaw and hold a knife against my throat. I twisted his hand so hard that the knife fell from his grip. I threw the knife straight into Silas's thighs as he made his to Carter and he stopped in his tracks groaning in pain. I wiped the blood from my jaw on my sleeves and kicked him hard on the ribs. I think I heard it crack.

But he gave me a toothy grin. And then, so many things happened in a heartbeat. The door broke open. There stood cops with the guns and one of Silas's men pulled the trigger. Not at me but at the kids. My legs ached at the sudden action as I bolted towards them and knelt down to their height.

The impact of the bullets sent me reeling backwards and I hit the wall, crumpling against it. And all I heard was Carter's voice.

And then, I fell into nothingness.

CARTER POV

I shouted in alarm as the bullets hit Cayden and she hit the wall with so much force.

''Cayden! Cayden, don't close your eyes!'' I begged shaking her.

''Please, Cayden. Talk to me. Don't shut your eyes.'' I hugged her to my chest and cried out for help.

It's been three hours and the doctors still haven't informed us anything. Everyone was here. Jason, Fred, Gilbert, Bryan and my family. Casey and mom wept while the others sat quietly. The twins were nowhere to be seen.

I couldn't think about anything but her. I didn't feel the pain in my side anymore. Maybe, that was how Cayden felt every time she hurt herself. It pierced me when I thought about the things she had to go through. I wanted to see her. Just looking at her face could do anything to me. I prayed she would be okay. I wanted nothing else. Just her.

''Dude, she would be fine. She is a strong woman. She can do it. Just take the pain killer. It would do you nothing good if you were dead by the time she wakes up.'' Bryan tried to cheer me up but I didn't spare a glance at him.

I knew she was strong. She will do it. For us. For the kids. For me.

And at that moment, I realised something as big as the universe.

I love her.
