The next morning, all traces of Jimin's mood from last night were gone.
"Good morning, sleepyhead! What, did you go to bed at 3 AM yesterday?" he greeted her as she walked into the living room.
Hyeri saw him sitting on the couch and reading a book while sipping some coffee.
"Yeah, actually. You didn't make any coffee for me?" she asked, taking a seat beside him.
"I didn't know when you were gonna be awake," he replied, shrugging and putting his book down.
"Wait a minute. Isn't today Tuesday? I have school today!" Hyeri exclaimed, remembering that there was a real world waiting for her outside of all the stuff Jimin had told her.
"Oh, I took care of that! I called the school and informed them that you'd take today off. I told them that I was your cousin. Since I'm not a minor, I was able to call in sick for you," he explained. Then his eyes lit up as he remembered something. "They did ask about your legal guardian, though, and I told them that she was busy. But what's the situation there? Shouldn't you have a legal guardian, since you're a minor?" he asked curiously.
Hyeri felt annoyed even thinking about her "guardian." But she did owe Jimin an explanation, since he'd covered for her.
"My legal guardian is my Aunt Eri. Although, she isn't much of a guardian," she explained, sighing. She continued when Jimin raised his eyebrows. "She's let me stay in this house, our parents house, this whole time. She hasn't bothered to check up on me once, and the only thing she does for me is send me money each month. I mean, yeah, that's pretty important, but emotionally, she hasn't been there for me, so I would just consider her a money-supplier, not a guardian."
Jimin seemed like it wasn't a surprise to him. "I guess if you really had a reliable guardian, you would have reached out," he said, setting down his coffee mug. "But at least I'm here now, because of Aunt Eri, so I guess I should be thanking her," he finished, beaming at Hyeri.
"You're so cheesy," she mumbled, but she felt really happy. It was the first time in a long time that someone had felt genuinely happy in her presence, and she in theirs.
He just smiled back at her.
By this time, Hyeri was positively famished.
"Did you have breakfast already?" she asked, her stomach begging for something to eat.
"Oh no, not yet. I figured we could eat together, regardless of when you woke up. But it's more like lunch now," he replied, standing up. "Oh also, I'll cook, and we can talk about anything else you might have wanted answered while we eat." He grabbed his coffee mug and left to get busy in the kitchen.
By the time Hyeri had finished showering, she could smell the aroma of food wafting in through her door.
She saw Jimin just as he was putting her plate on the dining table.
"Perfect timing! I just finished," he said, spotting her. He ruffled his hair and sat down on one of the chairs.
Hyeri walked over and was pleasantly surprised. He'd made some pancakes, with some orange juice, and overall, it looked delicious,
"I don't even have the ingredients to make pancakes! Where did you get these supplies?" she asked, sitting down.
"Perks of being a supernatural being!" he replied with his mouth full.
Hyeri resisted the urge to smile, and took a bite of of her own breakfast.
"Wow, these are really good! Do supernatural beings have super-cooking skills, too?" she asked, taking another bite.
