Jimin POV
Hyeri had an ice pack pressed against her jaw, and Jimin could see her lip was cut. She gave them a little wave as they entered the room, which Jimin realized, was the infirmary.
"What happened?" he asked, sitting down on one of the chairs. Charlotte leaned against a wall.
~Flashback~
Hyeri POV
"Are you okay?" Hyeri asked, putting a hand on Charlotte's shoulder.
Charlotte looked up. Her nose was red and her eyes moist.
"I'm really not. I'd prefer if you could leave me alone right now, though," she responded, sniffing.
"I can do that, of course. But I'm here for you," Hyeri replied, making a motion to stand.
Charlotte looked at her for a moment, then gestured for Hyeri to sit down.
"My boyfriend, he's kind of... violent. He -- I don't see any way to put this delicately," Charlotte said. She pulled up her sweater sleeve. Hyeri widened her eyes as she saw many blue and purple bruises on Charlotte's arm.
"You have to tell someone!" Hyeri exclaimed.
"I can't," Charlotte whispered. "H-he'll hurt me again."
Hyeri clenched her fists. She was angry; she hated to see people be hurt by the ones they trusted.
They heard coming footsteps down the hallway. A tall boy with dark black hair walked up to them. Hyeri didn't think that he went to their school. He looked happy, but that changed as soon as he saw Charlotte hurriedly pulling her sleeve down. The girls stood up as he approached them.
"What are you doing, jagiya? Hope I'm not disturbing anything," he asked, glaring at Hyeri.
"No, of course not," Charlotte replied hurriedly. "This is my classmate, Hyeri. We were just talking about the history project."
"Oh?" the boy raised an eyebrow. He stepped close to Charlotte and grabbed her arm. "Maybe we should discuss it too, I could help out."
Charlotte widened her eyes.
Hyeri gritted her teeth and shoved his arm off of Charlotte. He stepped back, looking slightly amused.
"I never got your name," she said with a forced smile.
"I'm Jiho," he replied. "Now, if you'd excuse us, Charlotte and I have places to be."
"We don't. I actually need to get to class," Charlotte replied.
"Really?" he asked. He shoved Hyeri. As she regained her balance, she saw him standing dangerously close to Charlotte.
He swung his hand up, and Hyeri grabbed it just short of hitting Charlotte's face. She forced it off and let it go.
"Don't touch her. She is your girlfriend, not some animal you can abuse," she said, glaring at him.
Jiho narrowed his eyes, and before she could process what he was doing, he'd thrown a punch at her jaw.
"Precisely. She is my girlfriend. So leave us alone," he said.
Hyeri winced. It stung, but nothing she couldn't handle. But this Jiho, he was going to get it.
"Charlotte, you wanna help me beat this guy up? Or would you rather go report him?" she asked, squaring her shoulders.
"I'm gonna go. Don't hurt him too much. You're going to get into trouble," Charlotte replied, leaving.
Hyeri punched him on his chest. He looked winded and surprised, but bounced back very quickly and went for her cheek. She dodged him, and she went for his jaw. He blocked her fist. After some thought, she waited for him to go for a kick. When he did, Hyeri held his shoulder and used her foot to knock him off balance. As he was on the ground, she held her elbow above his stomach.
"Do not move. I will not hesitate to hurt you," she said, catching her breath.
He lay still. After a few moments, Charlotte came back with a teacher.
"Let's get you to the infirmary," Charlotte said, helping Hyeri up.
End of flashback
"That's all. And I did not hurt him much, trust me. I only did what I did to keep him there until Charlotte got back," Hyeri finished.
Jimin looked at her with his eyebrows raised appreciatively.
"Trust me, I'm not judging you. I'm happy you stood up for Charlotte," he said giving Hyeri a warm smile.
"I'm happy too. I'm usually good about doing what's right for me, but he... he trapped me in many different ways. Thank you so much," Charlotte replied. By now, everyone had realized that she'd put up a facade earlier, at the lunch table.
"Don't mention it!" she replied, and then winced a bit.
"Hey, Hyeri, there's one thing I don't get. Where'd you learn to fight like that?" Jimin asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Oh, didn't I tell you? I used to take MMA lessons. I quit about a year ago, to focus on schoolwork," she replied with a smile.
"Wow. That is so cool. I know no one who can fight well. Just, wow," he replied, giving her an astounded smile.
They all laughed at Jimin's response and continued talking.
