Hyeri opened her eyes. Her blanket suddenly felt stifling. She squirmed and threw it off. Sitting up, she took an inventory of her room. It looked so foreign. Everything was cleaned and put exactly where it should. All the books on the bookshelves, her desk neatly organized, and not a trace of trash on the floor. It had not looked this way in a long time. She then remembered the silver haired boy from earlier, and spotted him at the foot of her bed, reading a book and seemingly oblivious to her being awake. She reached out to her bedside table, trying to grab her phone and praying she wouldn't make any noise. Just as she grabbed her phone, she sent a pen clattering to the floor.
"Frick," she whispered, snatching up her phone.
The silver haired boy jumped up and smiled at her, picking up a glass of water from her desk that she hadn't seen before.
"Good, you're awake! I was getting a little worried. Would you like some water?" He asked, heading towards her.
Hyeri held out a hand in front of her. "Not a step closer, or I will call the cops. I'm not kidding," she said, unlocking her phone with her other hand.
The silver haired boy's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "There's no need to do that," he stretched his arm out and flexed his fingers. Hyeri's phone flew out of her hand and into his palm, and she widened her eyes in bewilderment. "But just to be sure," he spoke and placed it carefully on her desk. With a wave of his fingers, a tiny, shimmering pink shield appeared around it.
Hyeri suddenly wished for her blanket back, which was silly, since she knew it couldn't protect her.
"Please don't hurt me. I don't have any money worth giving, or any valuables," she begged, fear seeping into her further by the minute.
The silver haired boy shook his head, as if he couldn't dream of doing something like that. "No, Hyeri, I'm not here to hurt you. I want to help you," he said, sitting down on the floor beside and her and handing her the glass of water.
Hyeri eyed the water apprehensively.
"Don't be silly, I didn't poison it," he said, drinking some water from the glass while making sure it didn't touch his mouth. She then hesitantly took the glass from him and took a sip, not realizing how thirsty she really was until she'd done that.
"Who are you?" she asked, draining the glass and setting it on her bedside table.
"Oh, right! Time for introductions!" he exclaimed, clapping. "I think the first question that you should be asking is 'what are you.' I am a Friend," he said, as if that explained everything.
"A friend? Whose friend?" Hyeri asked him, puzzled.
"No, no. A Friend. With a capital 'f'," he elaborated. "I'm not a human. I'm a Friend. We're a species that exists solely to help humans in need. Help them form a bond, and help them find a friend."
Hyeri didn't even know what to say. Maybe this guy was just delusional and needed some medical care.
He continued, oblivious to what Hyeri was thinking. "My name is Jimin. I am the Friend who's been assigned to you. I'm here to help you; to be your friend. To help you with your burdens, and to be there for you. Oh, not only that, I can do some pretty cool stuff!" he said, his eyes sparkling.
"I don't believe you. Sorry, I think you need to go to the hospital and get yourself checked out. I don't believe you, and I don't need you," Hyeri said, shifting to get off of her bed.
Jimin held out a hand, as if trying to placate her. Hyeri froze. She literally couldn't move.
"Jimin, are you doing something? Let me go," she said, willing her limbs to move.
