After a few weeks, Hyeri realized she rather liked Joon and Minhyuk-ssi. Joon-ssi --a/n: I use "-ssi" because I feel like oppa is used as a term for one's love interest more than as an honorific, at least in fanfics. I could use sunbae but that seems too formal. I'm just pointing out, Joon is older than Hyeri and Minhyuk is not-- was very composed, calm, and wise. She had witnessed him break things on multiple occasions, however. Minhyuk-ssi was very quiet and observant, but he had a very 18+ sense of humor. She wondered why she was jealous in the first place, as they all got along fine. On this particular afternoon, they were sitting in the cafeteria, laughing and eating their food. Hyeri spotted Charlotte walking towards them. Charlotte had a classic "queenka" reputation. She had deep red hair and big, brown eyes. People spread many nasty rumors about her -- especially about her supposed promiscuity -- and she was considered to be as deep as a puddle. However, Hyeri hadn't interacted with her and she knew better than to give in to rumors. Still, she couldn't help but be slightly wary as Charlotte neared them.
"Hi Joonie oppa! Hi Jiminie!" she said brightly, setting down her lunch tray and taking a seat next to Namjoon
Namjoon looked at her blankly and Jimin furrowed his brows in confusion.
"I'm sorry? I don't really know you," Jimin replied. It sounded more like a question than a statement.
A slight look of annoyance flashed on Charlotte's face.
"Oh Jiminie! You can be so silly! We're in the same history period. And Joonie oppa, we have math together," she replied, taking a bite of her apple.
Namjoon raised his eyebrows at her and nodded.
The more Charlotte talked, the more annoyed Hyeri became. She sounded like she used exclamation marks at the end of each sentence. And she hadn't even spared Hyeri or Minhyuk a glance. Hyeri looked over, and Minhyuk seemed just as annoyed as she felt. However, slowly Hyeri began to notice that Charlotte sounded irritated at herself, ever so slightly. She looked like she had well-covered bruises on her face and bags under eyes. Hyeri scrutinized her carefully and realized that she was not as perfect as she first seemed. Charlotte's eyes met Hyeri's.
"Like what you see?" she asked, smirking and turning her attention to Hyeri. She didn't sound mad or annoyed, just amused.
Hyeri raised her eyebrows at Charlotte and gave her a small smile.
"So Joon oppa? Jiminie? You wanna compare notes before the French test?" Charlotte asked, sliding off of the bench.
Jimin smiled at her and nodded ever so slightly. It didn't take a genius to realize that he was faking it.
She sauntered away and Minhyuk rolled his eyes.
"Minhyuk-ssi, don't judge her. I'm sure she has her reasons for acting the way she did," Namjoon said, crumpling up a wrapper.
Minhyuk sighed impatiently. "But she was so annoying, hyung " he replied. Jimin nodded in agreement.
Namjoon just shrugged.
"We'd better get going to class," Hyeri intervened.
The other three nodded and they all walked their separate ways.
As she was about to turn the corner onto a deserted hallway, she heard a quiet sob. The owner of the voice sounded like they were trying to repress their tears. Hyeri strained her ears, but all she could hear were some sharp exhales.
She tiptoed around the corner and found a girl with unmistakably red hair sitting on the floor. She had her head between her bent knees, and her hands clasped behind her head.
Hyeri walked up to her and crouched down.
"You okay?" she asked, putting a hand on her shoulder.
Jimin POV
Jimin didn't understand Charlotte. She seemed to fit the exact reputation of a "mean girl," but something about her was off. It was like she was wearing a mask with cracks in it. He thought he'd seen a few bruises on her, but he couldn't be sure. As he was about to enter the classroom, he heard an announcement over the PA system.
"Park Jimin, please come to the office. Again, Park Jimin to the office," the secretary's voiced crackled in.
Jimin walked over to the office, feeling puzzled. He found a worried looking Charlotte at the door. She was biting her nails and her eyes were burning. As he neared the entrance she snapped up to look at him.
"Jimin! What took you so long? You have to come with me!" she said with observable panic.
"Wh-"
She grabbed his wrist and led him inside a room with the door propped open.
He widened his eyes at what he saw.
A/n:
Hello everyone!!! I hope you all had a spooky and safe Halloween. What did you dress up as?
I left you all on a cliffhanger, I know. But I've noticed a very low amount of upvotes and comments, as well as the fact that my reads have plateaued. So, I have a new thing I'm gonna do. For me to publish the next part of this chapter, this fanfic should have either:
a) 30 upvotes
b) 120 reads
c) 25 comments
You all have the same amount of time as me: three weeks. So, that means November 24th. If you guys can't reach any of these goals, I'll publish something, but it won't be a part two. Also, I'll be really disappointed. But hey, I know you can do it! If not, I understand that I need to make the story more engaging. Anyway, I hope you all had a good day. Please tell me your opinion on the chapter in the comments! Also, what do you all think Jimin saw?
Stay safe and practice social distancing!
I purple you all!
With love,
Prisha
