*Dean's POV*
I haven't spoken to Anna in ages. I've been hunting with Sammy and Cas for all these years. I still remember the day she told me she loved me. I was such an asshole. God, no wonder she didn't want to talk to me.
So much shit has happened. I miss her. I know she'll never give me another chance. I left her to fend for herself when she needed me the most. I did it because I was afraid of commitment. I looked at myself in the mirror in disgust.
"Dean? What's wrong?" Sammy asked. I sighed deeply. "Do you have any idea what it's like to look at yourself in the mirror and hate what you see?" I asked. He looked confused. "Why would you do that, Dean? You're a pretty awesome brother." He said, defending me. That's just it. I never told him about Anna.
"I never told you about this, but when I was in California, I met a girl. A beautiful girl. In fact, probably the most beautiful girl I've ever met. " I began. "And?" He said, motioning me to keep going.
"Well, one thing led to another and I ended up staying with her for a month." I added. "I'm not getting this. What's so important about this girl?" He asked.
"I actually like her. Maybe even loved her. She told me she loved me and I never responded to her. And then I left her when she needed me most. She lost everyone she ever relied on. Including me." I explained in depth. Sam looked surprised and impressed all at the same time.
"Love, Dean? Really? Are you sure you didn't hit your head in California? You're Dean. You don't normally do that with girls, and you sure as hell don't stay with them for a month." Sammy sassed. Sam scoffed while saying that.
"I just can't keep pretending that everything's alright." I said, with the utmost seriousness. "Oh. You were telling the truth, Dean. I'm sorry I doubted you." Sam apologized.
"It's okay. But she hates me now. I left her and she's not ready to forgive me. I understand. I wouldn't want to forgive me too if I was her. She has every right to hate my guts. But she was being very weird when I called her last night." I said. "Wait. You called her? What did she say or what did she do that was so weird?" Sam asked, truly curious.
"She was whispering angrily. I wondered the whole night why that could be." I said, not believing myself for that being weird. "I don't know, Dean. Maybe she had other people to worry about that were asleep. Like her neighbors." Sam joked. Cute. I rolled my eyes.
"That's beside the point." I said. "What is your point, Dean?" Sam asked, as if he was annoyed. I didn't say anything. I was trying to come up with something else to say. "You do love her, Dean." Sam said, smiling like an idiot.
"No. I just care about her well-being." I lied. Well it wasn't really a lie. I cared about her well-being too. But maybe I do love her. "You're a terrible liar, Dean." Sam said. Ain't that the truth.
"You should go see her." Sam suggested. "Are you crazy? She didn't even want to talk to me. I highly doubt she'd want to see my face again after what I did to her." I said with a raised tone. "You will never know until you try, Dean. I'll help you. In fact, I'll even go with you if you're scared." Sam said. I wasn't sure if he was joking, but the fact that he though I'd be scared was just a slap in the face.
"How are you going to help me?" I asked. "I'll find out where she lives, and I'll go down there with you. We're not busy right now and we just closed a case. Come on? Whataya say?" Sam said. Tempting. "Okay. Her name is.. is... Anna Haventon. " I said, hesitantly. I smiled to myself remembering all the times we spent together.
It may as well be the best month of my life. Sam's right. I'll never know until I try. Sometimes I hate it when he's right. While I was lost in thought, Sammy was scouring the yellow pages or whatever the hell he was doing to find Anna. "Got it. 2015 10th Avenue San Francisco, California 34116. We'll leave when you're ready." Sam said, profoundly.
"You work fast." I stated not really caring that I thought aloud. "Thanks. " Sam said, smiling with pride. Cocky is more of the word for him. "Nerd." I insulted. He laughed and shook his head.
We got our things ready to drive to San Francisco. Never thought I'd be going back there. Never thought I'd see her again. Tried to move on. Failed miserably. Truth be told, my hunting has gotten a little sloppy since I met her. I'm surprised I even remembered her after all these years.
I don't even remember what brought me to San Francisco anyways. We're usually just hunting in states around the Midwest. Oh well. I'm not going to question it.
