Chapter 14 Royal Secret

After Jessica came too she immediately burst into tears.

"Why?" She said. "Why did you stop taking your pills? They were keeping you safe!"

Andrew put his arms around his sobbing wife and sighed.

"I assume you had something to do with this." He said to Drake.

"I don't understand." Drake said with a frown. "What the hell is going on here? Why did you have Cass on those pills? Why were you hiding her wolf from her?"

Andrew looked at Jessica and she shook her head with pleading eyes.

"We have no choice now baby. What's done is done. They have to know if she is going to be protected."

Jessica looked at him with anguish filled eyes but nodded.

"Cass before I start please know that we love you. The things that we have done have been to protect you. Cass, you aren't blood related to Andrew or I. Andrew and I lived on Atropos Island with your mother. I was her personal maid and Andrew was her personal guard. She was a wonderful person. She brought light into everyones life that she touched. One day we had a visitor to the island. It was the  sole heir to the throne on Lachesis. His father had sent him to conduct some business with your grandfather, the Alpha and King of Atropos. Your parents took one look at each other and instantly knew they were mates. However, with royalty mating is often done for political reasons with no regard for true mates. He was betrothed to a princess on Clotho Island. Your mother was betrothed to that princess's brother, the heir to the Clotho throne. It was a way to finally tie all three islands together as there had been dissent brewing between the three for some time now.

All three weddings were to take place on Lachesis Island on Helena's 19th birthday. She had known for sometime that she was bethrothed to Talbot but she feared the stories that she heard of him. There were whispers of a darkness in the line, a hunger for power, to rule over everyone stronger then normal, even for a royal. She knew her place though, was raised to accept her fate and would have with her head held high if she had not met Nikkolli first.

I will never forget the look on Helena, your mother's face, when she first saw him. It was pure magic. Andrew and I felt horrible for the two of them, being mate's ourselves we couldn't comprehend the thought of being mated to someone else. We helped them whereever we could, even though if we were caught it could mean the end of our own lives. He was supposed to be on the island for a month...he stretched it out for two.

The day before the wedding she came to us in tears and confessed she was pregnant. Andrew got his hands on something that allowed us to cover your mothers scent. The thought being that since she wasn't far along perhaps she could pass the child off as Talbots. Not the most honest thing, I know but in order to prevent war we had to try. We then left for Lachesis.

The next day dawned and the weddings took place as planned. Happily the practice of royals claiming their brides at the ceremony no longer took place. It was now done during the first official mating. I do believe it would have killed your mother to see her love claim another. Since he had not marked her we hoped that things would go ok when she was marked by Talbot, and Nikkoli marked Holly. Still, she didn't need to witness that and nor did he.

They were allowed just one dance together at the reception. They looked so amazing together it brought tears to my eyes. How unfair I thought, that these two beautiful people were going to be denied the life together that they deserved. The life that they were meant to share. It broke my heart.

The reception ended around two am and all the royals retired for the evening. Around three Andrew and I awoke to Helena standing over our bed sobbing hystericaly, the light from the moon coming through the window illuminating the blood on her hands. We sprang out of bed and asked her what happened.

She told us that knowing that she would never be able to go through with the mating and claiming that night, while still in the castle of her true mate she had drugged Talbot. He was meant to pass out before he could touch her. The drug would have also made him groggy the next day and unable to...perform. That would buy her enough time to get back to Clotho. She also confessed that Nikkoli would not take his bride that night as well out of respect for her. Unfortunatly, before the drug had taken effect, Talbot had other ideas. He intended on raping your mother if she would not yeild to him. As she was being dragged to the bed she grabbed a dagger off of a nightstand and when he moved on top of her she stabbed him. She said that right after she did it he passed out as the drug had finally taken effect. She still had the dagger. We asked her if he was still alive and she said that when she left him he was alive still, that she had covered him up like he was sleeping then came to us.

It was now a race against time. We knew that nobody would disturb her room until noon since the festivities had gone on so late. We snuck out of the castle and raced for the pier. Once there we stole a boat and sped away to Atropos. When we got there we quickly gathered a few personal belongings and money...lots of money. We knew we would need it for our life on the run.

From there we went to Cutter Island. It was run by mercenaries and thieves who, for a price would fly you anywhere you wanted to go. We flew to a tiny deserted airstrip in South America. Andrew killed the pilot and torched the plane...dead men tell no tales. We made our way back to civilization, changed our appearances and secured false id's.

We stayed in Brazil until about a week before you were born. We wanted to make sure you were born on American soil. We rented a place in Colorado in a tiny town that didn't even have a hospital. I brought you into this world myself. The towns doctor was called after you were born and he checked you over and filled out the paperwork for your birth certificate. We stayed there for about a month before going back to Brazil.

When you were about two years old your mother went out to the market and didn't return until dark. She was bleeding out and just barely dragged herself home. She said that a member of the royal guard was in the market place, how they found us I will never know. She managed to kill him but he injured her in the process. She begged us to take you and protect you. She died in my arms. We burned the body and had the ashes turned into the gem on the pendant that I said I would give to you on your wedding day.

We had plastic surgery this time and changed our names once again. This time to Jessica and Andrew Hail. We moved to the town we live in now and the secret has been kept until right now. We have found a way to get information about home...that is why we travel every so often.

Talbot still lives and bears a scar from your mother. He still hunts for her. As an unexpected twist Talbot and Holly are both sterile. Your mother was an only child as was your father.
