Yang POV

I was heading out to the cafeteria after I had finished my homework for today when I saw Freyer making his way to the roof. Curious I had decided to follow him and hid behind the door as he spoke with Jaune and Pyrrha about his past. I was horrified and when I heard that Freyer was going to calm down. I ran back down a single flight of stairs and hid in a supply closet. When Freyer passed me I poked my head out and noticed that he wasn't heading to his dorm like I thought he would. After a quick moment I decided to follow him. He was like me. Only he was abandoned by both parents, not just one. After a while we came across a room I had honestly forgotten about. The music room. Freyer quickly walked in and picked up a violin. I stood outside the door waiting, curious about what he was going to do and after a little bit of tuning. Freyer started to play. I recognized the song as Lindsey Stirling's Crystallize. A moment later I peeked my head into the small window in the door and saw Freyer absolutely entranced with his playing just like Ruby would be when she was checking over Crescent Rose. Wanting the full experience I opened the door and walked in closing the door quietly behind me so he wouldn't notice and leaned on it. After four solid minutes of playing Freyer took the bow away from the instrument and took a deep breath. I didn't know what came over me but I walked forward slowly and wrapped my arms around him resting my head against his back. "Sorry." I said. "I know you probably wanted to be alone but I couldn't help myself." I felt him take another breath before he spoke. "You heard my conversation with Pyrrha and Jaune?" I nodded my head against his back. "Sorry for eavesdropping, but I know what it's like to be abandoned. My mother left me shortly after I was born. While Ruby's mom was still there along with my dad, I always wondered why. Eventually I almost got myself and Ruby killed because I wanted answers." I felt him relax into me and sighed. "I meant what I said you know... That I wouldn't wish my past on anyone." I tightened my grip on him and nodded again. "You know I have been thinking I need some time off. How about we go into Vale this weekend. Just you and me. It could be nice to see the city and play again." I smiled and raised my head to rest on his shoulder. "Sure, sounds good to me but we have to get through this field trip to forever fall first." He groaned. "Don't remind me." He gave me a sidelong glance and we both laughed. "Alright we should be heading to bed it's going to be a long week." I nodded and we left after Freyer put down the violin.

Freyer POV

"Yes students, the forest of forever fall is indeed beautiful. But we are not here to sight see. Professor Peach has asked all of you to collect samples from the trees deep inside this forest, and I am here to make sure none of you die while doing so." We stopped our sightseeing walk and I heard a grunt and awkward whistling from behind me. I turned to see Cardin glaring at Jaune who had drawn the short straw and was burdened with carrying the empty jars and tree taps we would need. "Each of you is to gather one jars worth of red sap. However this forest is full of the creatures of grimm, so be sure to stay by your teammates. We will rendezvous back here at 4:00. Have fun!" With that we all broke off into our teams and went to explore the forest. I went with team RWBY mostly so I could hang out with Yang. "Alright team RWBY." Ruby said. "I hereby propose that we collect our sap first and then look around the forest when we no longer have to worry about it." She said, her smiling face beaming at us. It was clear that she was the most excited to explore this forest. "Looks like you're actually being responsible for once. I agree, let's grab our sap then we can relax." Weiss responded. Blake nodded and Yang smiled and replied. "Alright then. Let's get some sap!" After wandering around for a while we finally found a grove of the correct trees. I stabbed Flow into the tree twice, once to create a hole for the tap and one more below it which I left Flow in and proceeded to balance the jar upon the blade. I took a seat next to the slowly filling jar and closed my eyes allowing the sweet aroma of the sap to fill my nose. Soon enough I heard footsteps approaching and someone sit down next to me. Opening one eye I saw Yang sitting cross legged before she spoke up. "Hey, mind if I use your shoulder for a bit?" I closed my eye and said, "Not really go ahead." Expecting her to put the jar on my shoulder to fill. What I hadn't expected was for her to put her head on my shoulder. "Thanks, all this sweet smelling stuff is making me sleepy." Soon enough her breathing steadied indicating that she had fallen asleep. A few hours and a full jar of sap later I returned Flow to Ebb and simply relaxed for the last bit of time we had in the forest. That was until the incredibly loud roar of an Ursa major disturbed Yang's sleep and the sound of panicked footsteps caused the both of us to rise. "Ursa ursa!" one of Cardin's teammates shouted as he ran smack dab into Yang who grabbed him by his collar. "What! Where?" He pointed back saying. "Back there. It's got Cardin." Pyrrha dropped her jar of sap. "Jaune!" Ruby looked around taking a head count. "Yang, you and Blake go get professor Goodwitch." Pyrrha spoke to her two teammates as well. "You two go with them, there could be more." She finished as me, Weiss, Pyrrha, and Ruby bolted over to where Cardin and presumably, Jaune was.
