I led Rylie to the laundry room, and grabbed her a change of clothes, then took her outside, to the forensics truck. The tech there did blood swabs off of me, and collected all other needed evidence. She gave us bags for our clothes, and I had another officer go into my house, and grab us both a shirt and some pants. We changed, and gave her our clothes, and we were released to shower.

I handed Rylie my phone and had her call Seth while I guided her into my room. After living in her house for so long, I realized how simple and boring my room was.

I put her clothes on the bed, and grabbed a towel for her, just as she hung up the phone

I put her clothes on the bed, and grabbed a towel for her, just as she hung up the phone.

"Austin is in surgery. He is stable, but the surgeon just talked to Seth, and it looks like he needs a full shoulder replacement. The bullet nicked his subclavian artery, but he will be ok." She said, taking a deep breath.

"How long will surgery take?" I asked her.

"Probably about three hours, then two or three days in the hospital." She said running her fingers through her hair.

"Ok, why don't you shower, and we will head to the hospital. Officers can take our statements there." I said.

"Nick..." She said looking at me scared.

"He's dead, Rylie." I said as she covered her mouth. I caught her just before her knees gave out.

"I killed him..." She sobbed out.

I lifted her and set her on the bed. "Rylie, I need you to listen to me. You hit him five times, but from what I saw, they weren't enough to drop him as fast as he did. I shot him too. And I'm confident to say that I am the one who killed him."

She just looked at me for a long moment. "Is it over?"

"The worst of it, yes. Now it's about recovery."

"I can't go back to that house..." She said softly.

"You don't have to Rylie. Don't worry about any of that right now. All you need to do right now, is shower." I told her as I put her hair behind her ear.

"Will you stay in the bathroom with me? I don't want to be alone." She said squeezing my hand.

"Rylie," I said cupping her face, "I'm never leaving your side again."

I stayed close by as she showered. When she got out, I stepped in, while she dried off and got dressed. I pulled on a pair of jeans and a Miami PD t-shirt, and we got in my mustang.

...

We were at the hospital within an hour. Rylie knew where she was going, and found Seth quickly.

"Rylie!" Seth said as he jumped up and ran to her. He wrapped her in a hug as he started crying.

"I'm ok, Seth." she said as she pulled away.
