It was already the second week of December. Austin and Nick were watching a football game, and Seth and I were on my laptop, picking out Christmas decorations.
"I kind of want to go with a gold theme. I think it will look the best with the colors of the rest of the room." I said looking around the living room.
"You could do silver and gold." Seth said pointing at a few different things.
We decided on silver and gold, and ordered everything. It should all be here in the next two days.
"I'm going to go make my good hot chocolate." I said, closing the computer and walking into the kitchen. I pulled out the crock pot, and turned it on. I turned around to grab the ingredients I needed, but bumped into a hard chest.
"Can I help?" Nick said.
"Always!" I said. "I need the sugar and the chocolate chips from the top shelf of that cabinet." I said pointing up. I went to the fridge and pulled out the milk. "Oh! Also, the sweetened condensed milk, and the marshmallows!" I told Nick.
I started to pour the milk into the crock pot, and Nick stood behind me as he placed everything on the counter next to me. I felt his hands on my hips as I finished pouring.
"Trash please." I said handing him the empty milk jug. He took it and put it in the trash.
"Rylie..." He said softly.
"Hmm?" I said as I looked for the can opener. His hand landed on mine as he took it, and moved me closer to him.
"Umm... we have our Christmas party coming up, um, Austin and I... I mean. With Miami PD. It's usually pretty cool..."
"Nick?" I said softly
"Yeah?"
"Why is it, that you can interrogate the sickest people on this planet, but you can't ask me to be your date?" I said smiling.
He looked down at our hands, and laughed. "Rylie, would you like to come with me?"
"Yeah, I would." I said as I stepped into him and gave him a soft kiss.
"It's next weekend, and it's a black tie event." He said.
I looked at him surprised, "Nick! How am I supposed to get a dress?!"
"I guess, I just thought you might already have something." He said with a shrug.
"I have work clothes, but nothing for a black tie event! I need a real dress!" I said kind of flustered.
"I know it isn't ideal, but could you order something?" he asked.
"SETH!!!!" I yelled out.
"What?! Are you ok?!" He said flying into the kitchen.
"No! I need a dress! Get the laptop!" I said as I turned back to the crock pot.
Nick wrapped his arms around me again, and whispered, "Thank you."
Then it dawned on me, "Nick, are we even going to be able to go?"
"Where could you possibly be safer, than in a room filled with hundreds of officers, detectives, and SWAT?"
"Ok, that's true." I said with a smile.
"Ill let you guys shop." He said as he started to walk away.
"Wait!" Seth said. Nick stopped and turned around. "We need to know what you are wearing so we can find her a dress to match!" Seth said like it was obvious.
Nick smiled as he looked at me, "I'll wear all black. You can be the color." Then he turned and walked back over and sat by Austin.
"Ok, so being a Christmas party, we need to go with a Christmas color. But we don't want anything too flashy, so silver and gold are out. The best bet is to go with red or green, but you don't want to look like a walking tree, so green is out. That leaves red. But you also don't want to look like a firetruck, so the shade of red is essential. We need something warm and darker." Seth spat out as he typed and scrolled quickly eyeing all the dresses.
