Seth and Rylie left a few hours ago for their 'BFF Fun Day' as Seth called it. I have no idea what they are doing, but apparently it takes several hours. Austin and I were sitting out back by the pool. He was face down on a lounge chair enjoying being lazy. We just finished a really physically intense case that we literally had to chase a few people.

"Maybe you should have gone with them and gotten a massage." I joked as I set an ice cold beer on his back making him jump up from the cold.

"That would be counterproductive." he said glaring at me as he rubbed the cold spot on his back, and opened the beer.

"What do you mean?"

"If I go get a massage, that means Seth won't do it." He said with a smirk.

"What whiny line do you pull to get him to do that?" I asked, rolling my eyes.

"I just tell him how hard it is chasing bad guys and keeping the city safe. I might add in that I must be super sore because of how much muscle I have." He said with a grin.

"And he falls for that shit?"

"He sees right through it. The trick is to strip during the conversation, so you are practically naked by the end. Then he just wants to jump me." He said with a shrug taking a sip.

"Wow..." I said shaking my head. My phone started to ring, and I saw that it was Rylie.

"Hey babe." I said, picking it up.

"Umm. hey." She said, sounding worried.

"What's wrong?" I asked sitting all the way up.

"We were walking out of the salon, and I heard whimpering as we walked past an ally. There is a box here by the dumpster with two little dogs in it." She said, sounding like she was almost about to cry.

"Is your location on your phone turned on?" I asked her as I motioned for Austin to follow me inside.

"Yeah. It always is." She said.

"Ok, We will be there in just a second. Please be careful." I said to her.

We pulled our shirts on, and jumped into Austin's truck. He drove as I looked at Rylie's location and told him where to go. We pulled up to the ally in just a few minutes. I hopped out of the truck and walked over to where Rylie was. She was holding one of the dogs and Seth had the other. They were very small dogs. I don't know what breed they are, but they looked like the loud yappy kind.

"Nick, how could someone do this?" Rylie asked, looking at me.

"I don't know, babe." I said as I gently pet the little dog.

"This is illegal right? To just dump an animal in the trash?" She asked.

"Yeah, its animal cruelty." I said as I pulled out my phone.

I called the station and talked to one of the officers. They sent a car out to investigate, and take pictures. There were a few security cameras in the area that might have caught something, so they pulled the footage to be reviewed.

The officer that was called got the box and was talking to Rylie telling her she needed the dog, to take her to the animal shelter. The look Rylie gave me broke my heart.

"Nick, they will just end up killing her if no one wants her." She said as a tear rolled down her face.

"We will keep them as you do the investigation." I said to the officer. She nodded, and I signed that we had the animals.

I climbed into the bed of Austin's truck and opened his tool box. He always had emergency supplies, and I pulled out water, two cups, and a few towels. I passed them to Austin, then hopped down. I poured the water into the cups and Seth and Rylie let the dogs drink. They both looked healthy, and they were clean. I don't know why dogs this well taken care of, would be dumped.
