Chapter 14 : Sarah

A new life, a new start. I don't have to ruin this opportunity Elijah found me. After preparing myself I head to Elijahs store in town.

"Morning Gladys"
"Good morning ma'am"
"Please, it's Sarah want us to be more than just co-workers you know?"
"Of course Sarah, I'll get us some coffee across the street"

As I'm packing some drinks in a fridge I hear the door open.

"Back so soon Gladys"

I turn around and woah, that's not Gladys.

"Hello"
"Hey"

My God this guys handsome. I hope I'm not thinking out loud in this moment.

"How are you?"
"Fine"
"Okay... where are your hammers?"

I point him in the direction, Jesus Sarah you're better than this. A few moments later.

"As I head back to the counter Gladys comes back in

"What took you so long, there's a hot guy in the store and I needed you here"
"Sorry, the guy mixed up orders"

Her phone rings from the back.

"Let me take this phone call, it must be my husband"

The beautiful,...I mean handsome stranger comes to the counter with a hammer and two drinks in his hand.

"Hey again"
"Hey".

I give him the total bill.

"So are you new here"
"Huh?"
"I mean, I've been coming here often this is the first time I'm seeing you"
"I've been here about a week so maybe that's why"
"Great, I'm Joshua"
"Sarah.. Johnson"
"Wait, are you related to the owner. Elijah Johnson?"

Oops.

"Yeah, he's my brother"
"That must make you like--"
"His sister's boss"

Gladys comes back from the back.

"Hey Joshua"

Mind blown, Gladys why didn't you tell me your brother looks like an angel with Superman's body.

"Joshua here just moved closer to town"
"So I guess we'll be seeing more of each other"
"You bet"
"See you around sis, you too Sarah"

I look at Gladys almost forgetting she's pregnant otherwise I was going to shake her vigorously.

"Why didn't you tell me you had a brother who looks like that"
"You never actually asked Sarah"
"I guess that's fare"
"Look at you already drooling over him"
"I am so not drooling"

Don't even look at my blushing face. The rest of the day goes by really busy with customers.

"Thank you ma'am, well Gladys we're closing for the day, I need a list of everything we're going to need to restock tomorrow"

I slap a $500 in her hand.

"I can't take this Sarah, my pay day is nearly here"
"It's on me, today was really busy and you must be tired bieng pregnant and all take your Sunday off I'll run things smoothly tomorrow"
"I can see where your intentions are but hmm"
"This is just me being generous Gladys"
"Riiiight, goodnight Sarah and thank you so much"
"You're welcome sweetie, goodnight"

The next morning I'm on a ladder properly putting boxes on a top shelf. The door opens as the people come into the isle I realize it's not Joshua.

"Maybe he's not coming in today"
"Hey"

That voice, is that.

"Hey, where have you been?"
"Excuse me?"

What, why would you ask that.

"Sorry, i meant how are you?"
"I'm alright thanks, I had to skip breakfast had an early job in town this morning"
"Ohh, you're"
"A mechanic, if you're asking"
"That's... nice"

He's a mechanic, seriously. He's smile suddenly fades as he turns away to get a box of milk and a loaf of bread.

"So you're having breakfast at noon?"
"Yeah, I'm sort of a lazy cook although I am weirdly good at it"

I hand him back his change

"Thanks"
"Hey --"
"Sorry I'm kind of in a rush"

Ouch, what. Lilly walks into the store.

"Hey sis woah hi"
"Hi"

Joshua responds with a smile then walks out.

"Why didn't you tell me you had such a hot guy in the room before I came in looking like this"
"You look fine now did you bring it"
"Your other phone yeah, i would have just sent you the line if you gave me your pas code"
"Like hell give it here"

She turns around and looks at Joshua closing the back of his van and entering the drivers seat.

"But that guy is serious hot"
"Lilly!!"
"What..he came out looking kind of upset or something I wonder why"
"He was cute, and charming until I found out he's a mechanic"
"Am sure you must have made a face that's why he felt bad"
"I did say it was nice"
"You've got to be kidding me, have you learnt nothing he obviously saw right through the fact that you thought his job is stupid or something"
"I didn't".
"You didn't have to say it"

Lilly turns around.

"I need some milk and butter, plus chocolate chip cookies, vanilla frosting sprinkles"
"For what exactly"
"Ciaras making a good recovery so I want to surprise her with a Lilly special"
"Good luck, leave me some alright"
"Buy the ingredients and I'll make more"
"Get more I'll pay"

A few days later Joshua hasn't been back at the store for to get anything.

"Why hasn't he been coming"

After Gladys gave birth to her child it's been a month and I've been thinking about seeing him everyday. Everytime that he doesn't show up I feel like I need to see his face even more.

"Lilly was right about me, I've learnt nothing. How could I be so rude as to just say Nice and let him leave. I need to stop seeing men for what they have outside but for what they have inside and his body wow"

A few more weeks later Gladys is back at work. I shoot her a text.

"Hey sweetie you at work"
"Yeah, where are you?"
"It's that time of the month you know I had a tiny miscalculated issue but I'll be there soon😇😇"
"You had a issue do tell 👀"
"When I get there, promise😇"

As soon as I park the car I see it right there across the street. I run inside and find them seated.

"Hey Sarah, it's been a while"
" Too long Joshua"
