"Tell me now." Alois pushes me against the wall, around the corner in the alley. "I cannot wait any longer. Right now, you are mine and I need to know if I must pull myself away."

"You're being possessive," I tell him, frankly, after he's gotten his desirable face right next to mine. Suddenly, Alois is kissing me blind, and I can almost say that I have grown used to our violent way of knocking mouths together by now. In fact, he pulls back and looks at me with a smirk and in silence, though now and then he cracks a smile that makes me feel particularly stupid that he's enjoying doing this so much to me. I didn't think I would be really partial to kissing, after all. It's almost too sweet... loving... tame for Alois. Something along those lines. "I cannot tell you if your lips never leave mine."

"I don't like people playing with my things," he finishes eloquently, distracted by the feeling of my lips nearing his collarbone. "I want them all to know, without a doubt, that you are my woman. My wife."

"More like your prey! Or your food," I shoot back, with wholly inappropriate humor. "No?" Alois laughs at that, but what he really wants to say is stop playing and answer me. It's easy to tell. "Yes, Alois. I will marry you."

Within what feels like a flash, I am dragged to the nearest shack-like building with many courtesans and painted ladies surrounding us.

"I'd like a room, just for us, to celebrate our engagement." Alois slaps down a wad of money and the woman at the desk points to a room. I am subsequently dragged down the hall and pushed into a room.

"From now on, I'm the only one allowed to undress you," Alois remarks, after he's spun me around and begun undoing my laces. Lately, his hands couldn't seem to help themselves when it came to playing with them—I could only assume he had wanted to do this all along. If I had asked, he'd just have made up all sorts of excuses that wouldn't have worked well. All this contact colors my judgement, and no matter how worried about propriety I am, Alois is still his skin nearly translucent under the candlelight. In my head, I order Ellis to leave us be. I make mental note to update him on the new status of us as well.

The room held a strange smell of blood, mint, and balm-oil. "I love you," I say suddenly, turning from back to facing him, one finger raised to tease. "Perhaps you are a man after all. You're starting to become incompetent."

"Incompetent?!" Alois looks taken aback. "How so?!" I am freed from my clothing and I stand before Alois, not daring to cover an inch of my body. Alois gently guides me back to the bed and pushing me into a laying position. "That isn't a very clever thing to say-– I am not the one naked and engaged and sprawled on the bed with pink cheeks"

"You will be soon." I smile, knowing it is a bit naughty to say.

The thought makes his lip curl, even as he feels the sensation of my palms flat against his chest, his low mutter of "This doesn't change it." As he lays down atop me, I know that it doesn't—I am too excited to care.
