I started running every day. Sometimes with Kenzie and Kyle but usually only a "walk, run" since they only came to encourage me.
I started asking Matthew to come with me and his girlfriend lana as well. He seemed opposed until lana started spending more time with me running than with him and he started coming as well.
Matthew and me started talking more and it was like he never moved out and we became the closest siblings there ever was.
He went on a run with me in heritage park today and I was getting pretty good at running, so much so I was pretty far ahead of him.
"Jess! Wait up!" I laugh at him screaming behind me and I stop to wait up for him
"Okay I think I've had enough running for today, I know you can continue running for miles but that's just not me, you wanna go to Dale's diner?"
I smile at the mention of food "of course, let's go"
Matt drives us to the diner and we sit down at a booth "hey what can I get for you guys today?" A girl named danielle says asking for our order
"Can I have a cheeseburger and fries with a strawberry milkshake?" Matt asks "no problem" she replies "what about you sunshine"
I look up at her surprised, not hearing that name in so long but knowing she couldn't have known "um I'll have the hashbrown bowl and water please" she smiles back at me while I hand her the menu "no problem" she responds "I'll be back with your drinks"
The bell from the front if the diner rings signaling a new customer has come in and I look up seeing none other than Bryce William's with makayla.
My breath hitches and I have to look at the table. Matt notices and questions me "what's wrong? You good?" He looks back at the door looking at Bryce who hasnt seen us yet
"You know him?" I look between Matt and Bryce and say "something like that" he laughs "you guys hook up?"
I look at Bryce and realize he is looking right back at me and shake my head "no not like that but.."
"An entanglement?" He asks and I laugh "yes an entanglement" I agree
"Here are your drinks" the waitress says putting our drinks on the table "I'll be back with your food soon" me and Matt thank her while she heads over to Bryce who sat down at a booth across from mine.
"Well this is gonna be awkward" Matt laughs and I pick one of his fries to throw at him.
I try to ignore Bryce and enjoy a nice meal with my brother which almost goes to plan until the waitress comes over with the check and a note which she stated came from the "booth across"
I open it and read "hey sunshine I hope you are doing well, makayla says you are and according to you sitting with a guy at a diner i can see you are doing good, but i wanna talk, please see me before you leave if you can...I miss you sunshine"
I giggle a little while reading it and Matt shakes his head "imma go okay Jess, go talk to him" I nod and watch him as he exits the booth to pay.
I walk over to their booth and I greet makayla first "Hey makayla how are you doing?"
"I'm doing good Jess" she smiles. Makayla hasnt been able to run with me due to conflicting schedules but we kept up at school and texting. However she said she would come running with me this weekend. "I'm excited to see you this weekend" Bryce looks at her confused and she helps his confusion by saying "were going running this weekend together, you know how I told you how she is running more" he nods and nods his head towards the check
Makayla grabs the check and starts to exit the booth "okay well imma go pay, see you later Jessica"
"Bye" I answer back and turn to Bryce who was looking at me with a small smile
"Its nice to see you jess" he states shyly
"Its nice to see you too, I was just having a meal with my brother and it was a nice surprise to see you here" I can tell me saying brother surprised him and also pleased him
"You guys talking much?" He asks, knowing the trouble my family was having before and I nod "we talk every day, its going well"
" that's good" he responds and it becomes really awkward
"Look Jess" he says right when I say "Bryce" he laughs and says I can go first and I shake my head insisting he go first
"Well I was just going to say sorry and that I miss you alot" his chest stops rising so I know hes holding his breath waiting for my answer and I smile
"I miss you too Bryce, I dont mind being your friend I just needed some time" he let's out a breath and nods not knowing what to do with the information I just said
"How about you come with me and makayla this weekend on our run, it would be nice to catch up...if that's okay" his smile became huge when I said that and he nodded his head pretty quickly
"I would love that alot." I smile back at him and quickly he adds "thank you, seriously thank you"
"No problem" I say as he gets up and stands in front of me making it known that he wanted to go in for a hug but not knowing if he could
I go in for the hug first and repeat "i missed you"
He hugs me back and say "I missed you too sunshine, I miss you too"
