I was sleeping soundly under my covers. I could hear faint sounds as I just took in how comfortable I was feeling in my bed as the white walls took in the light that peered threw my window. I didn't want to move, I wanted to stay like this for as long as I could. But like all things great in life, it eventually has to be interrupted-
" Come on, Autumn! " like I was saying.
" Come on, you're always sleeping in too late. " I slowly rose up in my bed my eyes still feeling a little heavy. I yawned and stretched before I rubbed my eyes. I looked up slightly to her as she left closing the door behind her. That was Summer, she's my sister. She gets up early and is admittedly more athletically energetic than I am. She didn't get it yet as to the difference between me and her on multiple level's. For one, we're surprisingly close as sister's go. For instance, we don't fight and never once have fought each other. We've never argued either. We like almost everything as each other. Well, except I like vegetables and all kinds of fruits; while she does not. She's very athletic and musical, but I'm more artistic and good with writing. She has long dirty blonde hair, but she's jealous of my dark brown almost black hair that reaches to my lower back. Her blue eyes light up though but in comparison my dark brown eyes merely soften. As I put my black jeans on and a t-shirt on I thought about the very thing that I've been thinking about since I got up, breakfast. As I came downstairs I saw my Mom and Dad drinking coffee as Summer was getting a bowl of cereal ready.
My Mom was watching TV as my Dad was taking a sip of his coffee doing the same. Once I came down my Mom shot me a look acknowledging my presence. I went by Summer who had left the cereal box out with the milk for me to use next as she started to sit at the island table. As I took a bite of cereal from my bowl I looked around reminiscing how calm are house has always been. My parents happy and in love, my sister is a godsend, and I'm still trying to live my life in this calm peaceful setting. You would never have known what lye's beyond this setting that I've known since I was fourteen.
My dad isn't actually my birth father. My Mom had to be this werewolf's mate when she was 21. He was very possessive and abusive man. She was forced to be with him, and eventually she had me. I was born but I was a human. This made him angry and decided that he wanted to devours her. Naturally, she wanted the same and kept me. She eventually fell in love with a nice human who understood her situation. That was are Dad, then later on they had Summer. She was aware of this fact just as much as I did. Still, when she talked about my birth father. I felt her pain and sadness. Still, you'd think I'd hate him. Instead, I just felt nothing about him and just feared what made her get thrown into that situation. My Dad is the only one I can picture as my Dad, because by all that counts he is.
At the age of 20, a werewolf would be able to pick up the scent of his mate. Once a year each pack sends all women 20 and older who have not found their mate to different packs, with the intent to come across their mate. I knew at home, school, and even just walking outside. The fear that would strike me ever time I'd hear the sound of those trucks. It was like what most people would call fate, but I'd describe it as a fate worse than being taken by the grim reaper. Being a human was normal for me but strange the way we live. In high school, me and Summer had to learn about the werewolves. The only reason humans are part of packs is for the soul purpose of being available to be mates.
We are left alone until the werewolves want a mate. In school, we were told by are teachers who were the few female mates who were allowed to be teachers. That we were allowed to have normal jobs and got 20 bucks for an allowance a week until we hit 20 years old where we could get a job. Werewolves look for their mates scent and are allowed to choose whether or not they want to have a mate. Which I think is messed up since we have to be 30 to be safe from not having to worry about all this. There are six packs and we are all equal in size and had a Alpha ruling each one. I'm part of the Blue Moon pack. There are others like: Golden Moon, Red Rock, Green Mountain, Black Sun, and the Midnight Rogues pack. Each one shares an alliance to inshore stability between packs. The Blue Moon pack has an alliance with the Green Mountain pack. I was pondering something that made me break out of my thoughts.
As I looked at Summer laughing at something on TV, I realized that she was seven months younger than I am. Her smile is a memory I can recall in my memory as far back as I can remember. And yet...
The all too familiar sound of the trucks screeching to a halt outside somewhere made the moment freeze as the very thing that I'm recalling will soon break me. As I finished rinsing my bowl in the sink. I went back up the stairs into my room. I got pieces of paper that I was going to write for Mom, Dad, and for Summer. Once I was done I folded each one and put it in a envelope and in my bag that I was packing. Like clothes, underwear, some things like pictures of my family, and little things essential. For I remembered what I was always reminded of by the metal grinding halt of the trucks.
Tomorrow, I'll be 20 years old.
